About Smart Air Bangladesh
Smart Air Bangladesh is a social business on a mission: making clean air accessible to everyone in Bangladesh through affordable technology, transparent data, and meaningful public engagement. We design and distribute high-quality, low-cost air purifiers and deploy air quality monitoring networks that put real data into the hands of communities, researchers, and policymakers. Founded as part of the global Smart Air network, our Dhaka team works lean, moves fast, and holds ourselves to the same standard we ask of the air: clear and honest.
Join us at Smart Air Bangladesh and play a pivotal role in building a cleaner, healthier future for Bangladesh!
About the Role
As part of a grant-funded project, we are expanding our air quality sensor network across Dhaka. The Sensor Technician plays an important role in this expansion by supporting the deployment, logistics, and long-term maintenance of the network.
This role focuses on field coordination and acting as the primary liaison for sensor hosts. Responsibilities include assisting with the physical mounting of devices, precise GPS recording of installation sites, and training host contacts on basic equipment care.
During the monitoring phase, the Technician will conduct regular field inspections to collect ground-truth data- such as nearby burning activity and wind conditions to corroborate sensor readings. This position also involves managing equipment inventory and coordinating closely with the IoT Sensor Engineer to schedule necessary field interventions.
Key Responsibilities
Coordinate field logistics for sensor deployment, ensuring all mounting hardware and tools are available for on-site installations.
Work in close partnership with the IoT Sensor Engineer as part of a collaborative technical team to ensure the successful deployment and operational uptime of the sensor network.
Coordinate field interventions and site visits alongside the IoT Sensor Engineer, providing the necessary logistical and host-management support to facilitate technical repairs or sensor swaps.
Record precise GPS coordinates and site metadata for every installation to ensure accurate spatial mapping of the sensor network.
Act as the lead liaison with sensor hosts, managing communications, troubleshooting site access, and providing basic technical orientations to host contacts.
Conduct routine field inspections to observe and document "ground-truth" environmental factors (e.g., nearby waste burning, construction, or wind shifts) that may impact data.
Manage equipment inventory, tracking stock levels of sensors, mounting brackets, and spare parts to prevent delays in maintenance.
Support the IoT Engineer in physical troubleshooting and sensor swaps, ensuring hardware is safely handled and correctly positioned during interventions.
Maintain detailed field logs of site visits, host feedback, and environmental observations to assist the data analysis team in corroborating readings.
