Job Context:
∎ HI has been operating in Bangladesh since 1997, implementing emergency and development actions aimed at improving the protection, quality of life, and the promotion of rights of vulnerable individuals, including people with disabilities. HI`s current operations are centered Northern (Kurigram) and Southern parts (Cox Bazar). Currently, HI`s major operation is located in FDMN ( Forcibly Displaced Myanmar National/Rohingya refugee in a) camp in Cox Bazar with 3 field offices; Cox, Ukhiya, and Teknaf. HI- Bangladesh country strategy/startup ( 2021-2023) with one of the great focuses to create an operational balance between developmental and emergency operation; hence while maintaining the current emergency operation in Cox Bazar; HI is also extensively working to further expand the program to others part of the country including host community of Cox`s Bazar. HI, current operation in Bangladesh mainly includes disability-inclusive extreme poverty graduation project, Inclusive Sports and Education, Health and Rehabilitation, Protection and MHPSS, Inclusive Humanitarian Responses, Inclusive Education, and Atlas Logistic (H2H logistic support), etc. and operation is currently funded by BPRM, UNHCR, WFP, UNICEF, ECHO, HI Federation.
∎ Number of staff: Around 274 National staff and 06 international staff
∎ HI is currently looking for a Rehabilitation Assistant (Maternity Cover Position) for its “Inclusive specialized services for vulnerable persons including persons with disabilities in Cox`s Bazar Rohingya camps and host communities” funded by the BPRM project of Ukhiya, Bangladesh.
∎ Job Location: Ukhiya (MSF Clinic-HI Rehab Center)
∎ Type of Contract: Fixed-term
∎ Duration of the Contract: As early as possible to 30 August 2022 with the possibility of extension but it depends on the extension of the project.

Job Responsibilities:
∎ Objective 1: Provision of Physical and Functional Rehabilitation
∎ Provide rehabilitation care with the support of the Rehabilitation Officer to the most critical and high-priority cases according to the guidelines of HI’s emergency rehabilitation interventions.
∎ Under the supervision of the Rehabilitation Officer pre-screening and prioritization for accurate assessment, planning, and provision of appropriate therapy to the beneficiaries including ongoing evaluation/re-assessment of the beneficiaries within the constraints of the project resources and using local resources at the fixed point, the beneficiaries’ home, and where relevant.
∎ According to the outcomes of the assessment of the beneficiaries’ needs (taking into account her/his daily activities, the participation of her/his caregiver, etc.…), and consultation with the Rehab Officer develop an appropriate rehab intervention and treatment plan.
∎ Ensure rehabilitation outcomes to a person should focus on achieving and maintaining “OPTIMAL FUNCTIONING” in interaction with their environment, personal, and outcome factors.
∎ Familiarize yourself with the global physical and functional rehabilitation approaches of the Handicap International Federation (Humanity & Inclusion).
∎ Inform the beneficiary and the caregiver about the importance of rehabilitation services to improve the physical situation and daily function.
∎ Offer rehabilitation services based on the defined objectives between the beneficiary and the caregiver.
∎ Review the most recent information on the beneficiary’s evolution before starting a treatment session and adapt your treatment or seek technical advice from your Rehabilitation Officer & Senior Technical Officer- Rehabilitation whenever needed.
∎ Ensure the safety of the beneficiary during the rehabilitation sessions and take into account contradictions and precautions related to diverse illnesses, problems, and medical treatments. refer for medical advice if needed (DO NO HARM).
∎ Advice and train the beneficiary and the caregivers on the basic exercises, modification of tasks, and home activities that the beneficiary can do on his/her own or with/without support from caregivers on the way to prevent complications or disabling situations.
∎ Objective 2: Provision of appropriate assistive devices and rehabilitation equipment.
∎ Identify the beneficiary’s needs (for critical and high priority cases) in terms of assistive devices and mobility aids by seeking support from the Rehabilitation Officer to ensure as per HI guidelines.
∎ Ensure that the device is adapted to user needs and provide clear explanations to guarantee its safe and proper use and maintenance.
∎ Ensure a proper follow-up on the use and wean off the assistive device.
∎ Ensure the provision of assistive devices is made according to the strategy (quality and quantity) and the needs identified.
∎ Objective 3: Accountability, Reporting, and Documentation
∎ Document beneficiary's care services by charting in beneficiaries and department records.
∎ Write beneficiaries' case notes and reports and collect statistics.
∎ Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations; adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
∎ Ensure beneficiaries sign in a necessary document during the donation of devices and specific items.
∎ Objective 4: Internal and External Coordination
∎ Liaise with other healthcare professionals, such as GPs and Nurses, to exchange information about the background and progress of patients, as well as to refer patients who require other medical attention
∎ Refer the patient to other supporting partners within or outside the hospital and follow up on the referral
∎ Participate in weekly major ward rounds and update other health workers on the patients' progress.
∎ Maintain close coordination with the Hospital administration
∎ Support the Rehabilitation officer in mapping existing health services in the area.
∎ Ensure external referrals and follow-up, by gathering feedback on service provided for documentation.
∎ Inform the rehabilitation officer of any referral to partners.
∎ Participate in staff weekly coordination meetings.
∎ Provide necessary details and links for follow-up after discharge to Senior Technical Officer- Rehabilitation for follow-up.
∎ Ensure good communication and maintain rapport with the beneficiaries.
∎ Support any other duties requested by the line manager.
∎ Objective 5: Conduct
∎ Be caring, and compassionate and maintain good communication with beneficiaries at all times.
∎ Demonstrate ethics and professional practice.
∎ Respect the beneficiaries’ confidentiality.
∎ Respect and promote HI’s Policies and report any non-respect of HI’s policies to your line manager amongst the teams or partners.
∎ Report any incident or act that causes any harm to the beneficiary or others.
∎ Constantly interact with children in the presence of their parents or caregivers.
∎ Always ask permission to touch or apply any treatment or maneuvers to someone.
∎ Always respect a refusal of treatment.
∎ Show abilities and competencies to execute an efficient rehabilitation intervention.
