About the Project
The SHIKHA project funded by the European Union (EU) under the Social Compliance Programme aims to strengthen prevention and response to all forms of gender-based violence (GBV) in the public and workplaces in Bangladesh through legislative change and effective enforcement, strengthening systems, and addressing harmful social norms and gender stereotypes. The project will work in Dhaka, Gazipur, Chattogram, Barisal, Narayanganj, and Rajshahi districts in 250 workplaces, 270 educational institutions, public places, digital platforms, and with the Government of Bangladesh.
About the Role
The Project Officer is responsible for planning, implementing, and monitoring community-based interventions aimed at preventing and responding to Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and sexual harassment, with a particular focus on educational institutions and community settings. The role ensures effective coordination with stakeholders, delivery of awareness and capacity-building initiatives, survivor-centered case management, and promotion of safeguarding practices in alignment with BRAC’s values and principles.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan, organise, and ensure timely and quality implementation of project activities as per the approved work plan.
Conduct awareness and capacity-building sessions on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and sexual harassment for targeted groups in educational institutions and communities.
Facilitate the establishment and effective functioning of Sexual Harassment Redress Committees (SHRCs) in educational institutions.
Ensure prompt reporting of GBV incidents and coordinate with relevant stakeholders to support survivor-centered case management and referral services.
Maintain effective liaison and coordination with upazila-level government bodies, local government institutions, educational institutions, NGOs/CSOs, and other relevant stakeholders.
Collect, update, and maintain service mapping and project data to support effective referrals and informed decision-making.
Prepare and submit regular MIS and progress reports, ensuring proper documentation for monitoring and evaluation.
Monitor and follow up on project interventions to ensure quality, effectiveness, and compliance with safeguarding standards.
Additional Responsibilities:
Ensuring effective cooperation from RMG factories and school management.
Pandemic-related situations may hinder the timely implementation of project activities.
Coordination with diverse stakeholders across society adds an additional operational responsibility.
Safeguarding Responsibilities:
Ensure the safety of Programme Participants, people who come into contact with the organisation and team members from any harm, abuse, neglect, harassment and exploitation including sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) to achieve the programme's goals of safeguarding implementation. Act as a key source of support, guidance and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment.
Practice, promote and endorse the issues of safeguarding policy among team members and ensure the implementation of safeguarding standards in every course of action.
Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place and encourage others to do so.
