Job Context:
∎ The Support to the Management of Sundarbans Mangrove Forest Project (SMP II) is a follow-on project of the Management of the Sundarbans Mangrove Forest for Biodiversity Conservation and Increased Adaptation to Climate Change Project (SMP). SMP II strongly builds on and further develops the approaches and best practices of SMP. The objective of the project is "the BFD as well as those communities and local administration, that are part of the co-management structures, implement co-management, SMART and ecological monitoring as instruments of the sustainable management of the Sundarbans Mangrove Forest".
∎ The project is supported by GIZ and being implemented by CNRS in Mongla and Sarankhola Upazila under Bagerhat District.
∎ Project: Support to the Management of the Sundarbans Mangrove Forests (SMP II)
∎ Expected Joining Date: 01 March 2020.
Job Responsibilities:
∎ Lead/supervise CNRS-SMP field team in a particular Forest Range towards institutional capacity development of co-management organizations (CMOs);
∎ Planning, support to grassroot implementation, and monitoring field activities of SMP II;
∎ Conceptualize co-management approach practiced in the Sundarbans and stakeholders associated in the process, identify improvement areas and incorporate into planning;
∎ Drafting/preparing outputs/reports on project activities in line with the requirements of GIZ;
∎ Regularly mentor and provide necessary technical backstopping/support to the members of grassroot implementation team as per need;
∎ Participatory implementation planning of targeted interventions with team members and adjust as per need;
∎ Report to and take necessary advice/expert opinion of Co-Management Specialist on implementation planning, monitoring and accomplishments of activities;
∎ Preparing/drafting technical reports or other key deliverables of the project and involve the team and seniors for further improvement;
∎ Work closely with community members, RUGs, WGs, VCFs, PF and CMC to facilitate them for further strengthening;
∎ Participate and represent SMP in the PF, CMEC and CMGC meetings and provide support as necessary;
∎ Develop, update and analyze VCF, RUG and WG profiling factsheets and relevant database and draw conclusions/recommendations, draft actions and incorporate to address findings;
∎ Supervise and support the formation of Resource Users Groups (RUG) & Women Groups (WG) within VCFs as per prescribed guideline.
∎ Explore potential areas for gender mainstreaming in SRF conservation and management interventions and facilitate resource user women to avail their spaces in co-management processes;
∎ Maintain close liaison with different stakeholders (BFD, CMOs, Local Govt. etc.) at project site to implement the project activities
∎ Work under direct supervision of Project coordinator & Co-management expert of the project and report to him;
∎ Organize and implement field level motivational events and Day observation relevant to Sundarbans conservation;
∎ Explore potential future leaders within VCF/RUGs and facilitate them to come up with their leadership abilities in future SRF conservation interventions;
∎ Plan, organize/facilitate capacity development events like trainings, exposure visits, workshops and similar other events targeted events in the field;
∎ Monitor and supervise activities of Field Organizers and guide them to achieve project goals and targets;
∎ Any other activities as assigned.
Additional Requirements:
∎ At least 5 years working experience in Natural Resource Management, Co-Management and reporting arenas of I/NGO sector.
∎ Can be relaxed for persons having outstanding competency.
∎ Sound understanding and proven experience on participatory processes, community mobilization, stakeholder participation/engagement, training facilitation skills etc. is highly desired.
∎ Good communication, facilitation and motivational skills.
∎ Understanding on local culture and languages is preferable.
∎ Abilities to undertake extensive travel to village/community level.
∎ Having problem solving and prompt decision making capacity.
∎ Ability to work under pressure.
∎ Efficient computer literacy (especially MS, PP and Excel Office applications).
