Responsibilities & Context: Job Context: (Contractual – Project Based)
Background
Nagorik Uddyog is a national level human rights and development organization working in Bangladesh to promote social justice, strengthen democratic governance, and advance the rights of marginalized and excluded communities. With long-standing experience in labour rights advocacy, community empowerment, legal aid, and policy engagement, the organization places special emphasis on women workers, informal sector labour rights, and rights-based grassroots mobilization.
Building on this experience, the project “Empowering Women Workers for Rights and Safety” (39 months, 1 July 2026 – 30 September 2029) is designed to strengthen the collective agency, leadership, and workplace rights of women engaged in informal and subcontracted Ready-Made Garment (RMG) production contexts in Bangladesh. The project focuses on enhancing their awareness of labour rights and occupational safety, and developing their capacity for collective action, negotiation, and workplace dialogue. Through structured training, peer leadership development, workplace coordination mechanisms, research, and advocacy, the project aims to improve working conditions, strengthen grievance systems, and amplify women workers’ voices in decision-making spaces.
Job Summary
The Project Coordinator will provide overall leadership and strategic direction for the successful implementation of the project. The position is responsible for planning, coordination, execution, monitoring, and reporting of all project components, ensuring alignment with project objectives, donor requirements, and organizational standards. The role requires strong management capacity to coordinate multi-stakeholder partnerships, oversee field-level implementation across project locations, and ensure effective delivery of capacity building, training programmes, advocacy initiatives, and research activities in collaboration with labour rights associations and relevant stakeholders.
Job Responsibilities
Overall Project Leadership & Management
- Lead overall planning, coordination, and implementation of all project activities.
- Ensure timely and quality delivery of project outputs under capacity building, leadership development, advocacy, research, and dialogue components.
- Develop and manage detailed work plans, operational strategies, and field coordination systems.
- Ensure coherence across all project components and adherence to the full implementation timeline.
Supervision & Team Management
- Supervise Project Officer, Field Mobilisers, Finance Officer, and other project staff.
- Provide technical and managerial guidance for effective field implementation.
- Coordinate with senior labour rights trainers and peer leaders engaged in capacity-building activities.
- Ensure smooth collaboration between field teams and labour rights associations.
Capacity Building & Training Oversight
- Oversee Training of Trainers (ToT), refresher sessions, capacity building, and leadership development programmes.
- Ensure high-quality delivery of training modules on labour rights, OSH, GBV prevention, negotiation, and collective bargaining.
- Coordinate engagement of external experts and experienced labour rights leaders in training delivery.
- Ensure participatory and experiential learning approaches are applied.
Stakeholder Engagement & Partnership Management
- Maintain coordination with labour rights associations and grassroots worker networks for mobilization and implementation support.
- Engage with factory management, labour inspectorates, trade unions, CSOs, and policy stakeholders.
- Facilitate structured dialogue between workers and management at workplace level.
- Build linkages with national, regional, and international labour rights networks.
Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEL)
- Oversee baseline, endline, and thematic research activities in coordination with external experts.
- Ensure systematic monitoring of capacity building and leadership development along with advocacy processes.
- Track project indicators and ensure evidence-based implementation adjustments.
- Facilitate learning, reflection, and adaptive management processes.
Advocacy, Communication & Representation
- Lead organization of national advocacy events, conferences, and policy dialogues.
- Represent the project in national and international labour rights platforms.
- Ensure visibility of women workers’ voices in policy, media, and advocacy spaces.
- Oversee development of IEC materials, podcasts, and communication outputs.
Financial & Compliance Oversight
- Ensure compliance with donor regulations, NGO Affairs Bureau requirements, and organizational policies.
- Work closely with the Finance Officer to monitor budget utilization.
- Support audit processes and ensure proper financial documentation.
Sustainability of the Initiative
- Promote sustainability of capacity building and leadership development initiatives including peer-learning systems.
- Strengthen ownership of worker-led structures for continuity beyond project duration.
- Support long-term institutional linkages between grassroots groups and labour rights networks.
