Background

Nagorik Uddyog is a national level human rights and development organization working in Bangladesh to promote social justice, strengthen democratic governance, and advance the rights of marginalized and excluded communities. With long-standing experience in labour rights advocacy, community empowerment, legal aid, and policy engagement, the organization places special emphasis on women workers, informal sector labour rights, and rights-based grassroots mobilization.

Building on this experience, the project “Empowering Women Workers for Rights and Safety” (39 months, 1 July 2026 – 30 September 2029) is designed to strengthen the collective agency, leadership, and workplace rights of women engaged in informal and subcontracted Ready-Made Garment (RMG) production contexts in Bangladesh. The project focuses on enhancing their awareness of labour rights and occupational safety, and developing their capacity for collective action, negotiation, and workplace dialogue. Through structured training, peer leadership development, workplace coordination mechanisms, research, and advocacy, the project aims to improve working conditions, strengthen grievance systems, and amplify women workers’ voices in decision-making spaces.

Job Summary

The Project Officer will support the implementation, coordination, and monitoring of project activities at field and operational levels. The position will work closely with the Project Coordinator, Field Mobilisers, labour rights associations, and other stakeholders to ensure effective execution of capacity building and leadership development initiatives for women workers, workplace engagement processes, and advocacy initiatives.

The role requires strong field coordination capacity, communication skills, and a practical understanding of labour rights and gender issues to ensure smooth implementation and quality delivery of project interventions.

Job Responsibilities

Field-Level Project Implementation

  • Support day-to-day implementation of project activities in alignment with work plans and timelines.
  • Coordinate field-level execution of mobilization, meetings, trainings, and dialogue sessions.
  • Ensure smooth logistics and operational support for all field activities.
  • Assist in maintaining regular engagement with workers and stakeholder groups.

Mobilization Support

  • Provide hands-on support for mobilizing women workers.
  • Assist in organizing meetings, documentation of discussions, and follow-up actions.
  • Support facilitation of grievance identification and workplace issue tracking.
  • Encourage active participation of women workers in collective activities.

Training & Capacity Building Support

  • Assist in organizing Training of Trainers (ToT), capacity building trainings, refresher sessions, and workshops.
  • Support resource persons and senior labour rights leaders during training delivery.
  • Ensure training logistics, participant coordination, and documentation.
  • Contribute to participatory learning processes in field sessions.

Stakeholder Coordination

  • Maintain regular coordination with labour rights associations and grassroots worker networks.
  • Support engagement with factory-level stakeholders and management during dialogue meetings.
  • Facilitate communication between workers, field staff, and project management.
  • Assist in building local-level collaboration among relevant actors.

Monitoring, Documentation & Reporting

  • Collect field data and support monitoring of capacity building and leadership development initiatives.
  • Maintain proper documentation of meetings, trainings, and field observations.
  • Assist in preparation of periodic progress reports and field updates.
  • Ensure timely submission of activity reports and case documentation.

Advocacy & Communication Support

  • Support organization of local and national advocacy events, campaigns, and awareness activities.
  • Assist in preparation of IEC materials, field stories, and communication outputs.
  • Help document voices and experiences of women workers for advocacy use.

Logistics & Coordination Support

  • Support arrangement of field visits, meetings, workshops, and training sessions.
  • Coordinate travel, venue, participant mobilization, and logistical arrangements.
  • Ensure smooth operational flow of field-level activities.
