Job Context:
∎ PROGRAM OVERVIEW: USAID`s MaMoni Maternal and Newborn Care Strengthening Project (MaMoni MNCSP) contributes to USAID Bangladesh`s Country Development Cooperation Strategy (CDCS) goal and Strategic Objective 3, Health Status Improved through the project`s Strategic Objective of Increased Equitable Utilization of Quality Maternal and Newborn Care Services. The MaMoni MNCSP consortium embraces the GoB vision of "a Bangladesh where there are no preventable deaths of newborns or stillbirths, where every pregnancy is wanted, every birth celebrated, and women, babies and children survive, thrive and reach their full potential" and will meaningfully contribute to achieving its goals of reducing the neonatal mortality rate to less than 18/1,000 livebirths and the maternal mortality ratio (MMR) to less than 121/100,000 live births by 2022.
∎ Jhpiego in partnership with Save the Children is leading Maternal Health Technical Assistance and Integration of Quality of Care in maternal health interventions of this USAID funded MaMoni-MNCSP project for ensuring quality MNCH interventions in ten targeted districts and create evidence for scale up the program across the country.

Job Responsibilities:
∎ With a direct report to Country Lead of Jhpiego Bangladesh country program, the Program Director- Maternal Health is responsible to provide leadership, guidance, and management support on technical matters to achieve the objective of USAID's MaMoni-MNCSP. As a member of the technical team of MaMoni-MNCSP, the position will play a critical role in advancing maternal health interventions nationally through district implementation. Other responsibilities include but not limited to -
∎ Guide the development of national, regional and district level strategies, plans to strengthen maternal health interventions into health systems and government operational plans
∎ Oversee the implementation of maternal health standards, innovations and roll out activities in project districts
∎ Liaise with QI, implementation and MEL teams for improving delivery and coverage of interventions
∎ Facilitate coordination among DGHS, DGFP, DGNM, OGSB and other national committees and agencies, as relevant, in ensuring consistency and quality
∎ Build the capacity of local staff and counterparts in providing effective support and supervision of maternal health activities at the district and sub-district levels
∎ Coordinate to ensure synergy with Newborn Health activities for efficient integration
∎ Review data for improving the quality and coverage of maternal health services
∎ Support to design program-based research; dissemination of key results and learning at local, national and global levels.
∎ Ensure proper documentation of program activities and communicate/collaborate with national stakeholders and professionals on a regular basis
∎ Manage a team dedicated for Maternal Health within the MaMoni-MNCSP

Additional Requirements:
∎ Minimum 10 years' experience of supporting and delivering large health programs with a focus on maternal health and family planning
∎ Substantial period of management experience
∎ Thorough understanding of the service delivery system in Bangladesh.
∎ Experience of working with national level GoB Systems Specifically senior level interaction of DGFP and DGHS is a must.
∎ Demonstrated experience of providing capacity building assistance on family planning and maternal health
∎ Excellent communication and presentation skills and ability to communicate and write in English.
∎ A team player who regularly listens and adapts approaches as necessary based on input from all levels of program and technical staff
∎ Expertise in research to practice-identifying and adapting best practices to specific project contexts
∎ Ability to work in a complex environment with multiple tasks, short deadlines and intense pressure to perform
∎ Willingness to travel to the field 40% of the time.
