Responsibilities & Context:
∎ Supervision and Training: Provide guidance, support, and on-the-job training to a team of midwives to enhance their knowledge and skills in maternal and newborn care.
∎ Quality of Care: Ensure that midwives adhere to best practices and international standards in maternal and newborn healthcare to provide safe and quality care.
∎ Antenatal Care: Oversee the provision of comprehensive antenatal care services, including health assessments, prenatal education, and monitoring the health of pregnant women
∎ Safe Delivery: Ensure the availability of skilled birth attendance during childbirth and promote the implementation of essential childbirth practices to reduce maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality
∎ Postnatal Care: Coordinate postnatal care services, including check-ups for newborns and mothers, and support for breastfeeding and postpartum family planning
∎ Emergency Obstetric Care: Collaborate with relevant organizations to ensure timely access to emergency obstetric care services for pregnant women with complications
∎ Data Collection and Reporting: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of maternal and newborn health indicators.
∎ Community Engagement: Engage with the refugee community to raise awareness about maternal and newborn health, encourage antenatal care attendance, and promote positive health-seeking behaviors.
∎ Collaboration: Work closely with other healthcare providers, including doctors, nurses, and community health workers, to integrate midwifery services into the overall healthcare system.
∎ Capacity Building: Organize and facilitate training sessions for healthcare workers and community members to enhance their knowledge of maternal and newborn health
∎ Examining and monitoring pregnant women
∎ Assessing care requirements and writing care plans
∎ Undertaking antenatal care in hospitals, homes and GP practices
∎ Carrying out screening tests
∎ Providing information, emotional support and reassurance to women and their partners
∎ Taking patient samples, pulses, temperatures and blood pressures
∎ Caring for and assisting women in labour
∎ Monitoring and administering medication, injections and intravenous infusions during labourmonitoring the foetus during labour
∎ Advising about and supporting parents in the daily care of their newborn babies
∎ Helping parents to cope with miscarriage, termination, stillbirth and neonatal death
∎ Writing records
∎ Tutoring student midwives
∎ Identifying high-risk pregnancies
∎ Midwives may work on a rota and be on call to provide care on a 24-hour basis.
∎ Prepare monthly report
∎ Any work assigned as per advice by concerned authority.
∎ Prepare and present reports on cases, incidents, initiatives etc. during team meetings and department meetings in order to share experience(s) and learning with team members.
∎ Attend all training/clinical sessions
∎ Actively take part in mentoring activities organized by Friendship
∎ Develop and demonstrate interest in a particular specialty
∎ Duty on roster basis

∎ Skill and Competencies
∎ Qualification: Possession of a recognized midwifery qualification and relevant licensure or certification.
∎ Experience: Previous 2 years experience in midwifery and supervisory roles, preferably in humanitarian settings or with vulnerable populations.
∎ Knowledge: Familiarity with evidence-based practices in maternal and newborn healthcare, emergency obstetric care, and family planning
∎ Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively lead a team and engage with the community.
