The Midwife is responsible for providing comprehensive maternal and newborn care, including antenatal, intrapartum, postnatal, and family planning services. The role ensures safe delivery practices, adherence to clinical protocols, and quality care for mothers and newborns, supporting positive health outcomes and effective coordination with the clinical team.

Key Responsibilities

1. Maternal & Newborn Care

• Provide antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care services

• Conduct normal deliveries safely and manage basic obstetric complications

• Monitor maternal and fetal well-being during labor

• Provide immediate newborn care, including resuscitation if required

2. Patient Assessment & Monitoring

• Assess pregnant women and identify danger signs

• Monitor vital signs and labor progress using partograph

• Refer complicated cases timely to higher facilities

3. Family Planning & Counseling

• Provide family planning counseling and services

• Educate mothers on birth preparedness and complication readiness

• Promote breastfeeding and newborn care practices

4. Infection Prevention & Safety

• Follow infection prevention and control (IPC) protocols

• Maintain cleanliness and sterilization of delivery room and equipment

• Ensure safe disposal of medical waste

5. Reporting & Documentation

• Maintain accurate patient records and registers

• Prepare delivery reports and clinical documentation

• Ensure confidentiality of patient information

6. Equipment & Supply Management

• Ensure availability of delivery kits, medicines, and supplies

• Maintain proper storage conditions

• Report shortages and equipment issues

7. Patient Care & Communication

• Provide respectful maternity care

• Communicate effectively with patients and families

• Address concerns with empathy and professionalism

8. Teamwork & Coordination

• Coordinate with doctors, nurses, and health staff

• Participate in training and capacity-building sessions

• Ensure proper shift handover

9. Additional Duties

• Support emergency obstetric care when required

• Participate in outreach or community activities (if applicable)

• Perform any other task assigned by management

• Willingness to work in shift duty (day/night roster)
