  • Sensitivity to cultural, gender, and religious dynamics in rural and refugee settings.

  • Strong communication and facilitation skills in Bangla (knowledge of Rohingya/Chittagonian dialects will be an advantage).

  • Willingness to travel frequently between centers in Ukhiya and Teknaf.

Job Summary

RW Welfare Society (RWWS), in partnership with UN Women and funded by the Government of Sweden (Sida) and the Government of Japan, is implementing a project to strengthen the socio-economic recovery, participation, and leadership of women and young women in both host and Rohingya communities.

As part of this initiative, RWWS has established Multi-Purpose Women’s Centers (MPWC) at Rajapalong Union of Ukhiya, Camp 14 of Ukhiya, and Camp 25 of Teknaf, in Cox’s Bazar. These centers provide integrated services, including midwifery support, psychosocial care, GBV prevention, vocational skills, and adult literacy.

RW Welfare Society (RWWS) invites applications from potential Bangladeshi nationals for implementing the project for the position of “Midwife”. The Midwife position will be responsible for providing essential reproductive, maternal, and adolescent health services, as well as awareness sessions on health, hygiene, family planning, and gender-based violence prevention. Services will be delivered on a rotational basis across the three MPWC centers.

Job Context

The position is field-based in Ukhiya and Teknaf Upazilas, Cox’s Bazar. The role requires regular travel between Rajapalong Union MPWC, Camp 14 MPWC, and Camp 25 MPWC. The position will work closely with community women, adolescents, and RWWS staff, maintaining confidentiality and adhering strictly to safeguarding and protection policies. RWWS has a zero-tolerance policy on Sexual Harassment, Exploitation and Abuse (SHEA), child abuse, and gender-based discrimination.

Responsibilities:

  • The Midwife will play a critical role in ensuring that women and adolescent girls receive quality reproductive and maternal health services at the Multipurpose Women’s Centers (MPWCs) in Cox’s Bazar. Key responsibilities include:
  • Provide midwifery services to women and adolescent girls, including antenatal care, safe delivery referrals, family planning counseling, and basic maternal health care.
  • Conduct awareness sessions on reproductive health, menstrual hygiene management, GBV prevention, and maternal nutrition.
  • Support in community-based outreach activities to reach vulnerable women and girls.
  • Maintain accurate health records, case documentation, and timely reporting to the Program Manager.
  • Coordinate with local health facilities and service providers for referral services when needed.
  • Actively contribute to promoting safe motherhood, preventing child marriage, and increasing awareness of women’s rights to health services.
  • Work closely with RWWS project staff, volunteers, and psychosocial support officers to provide holistic support to women and girls.

Responsibilities Description:

  • Provision of Midwifery and Reproductive Health Services
  • Provide antenatal, postnatal, and basic maternal health care for women and adolescent girls at the MPWC.
  • Conduct safe motherhood counseling, including family planning methods, pregnancy care, menstrual hygiene, and reproductive rights.
  • Identify high-risk pregnancies and ensure timely referrals to appropriate health facilities.
  • Provide first-line support and referral for survivors of sexual and gender-based violence (GBV).
  • Support adolescent girls with reproductive health education, safe menstruation practices, and psychosocial well-being.

Health Awareness & Community Education

  • Facilitate awareness sessions for community women and adolescent girls on maternal health, nutrition, menstrual hygiene management, child spacing, and prevention of early marriage.
  • Conduct interactive group sessions and one-to-one counseling at both the center and community outreach levels.
  • Work closely with religious and community leaders to promote positive behavior change around reproductive health and women’s rights.

Case Management & Referral Support

  • Maintain confidential records of clients, ensuring timely documentation of services provided.
  • Refer cases requiring advanced medical attention (complicated pregnancies, emergency obstetric care, GBV cases, etc.) to government or NGO-supported health facilities.
  • Establish and strengthen referral pathways with Upazila Health Complex, local clinics, and other service providers.

Collaboration & Coordination

  • Work as part of the MPWC team alongside psychosocial counselors, vocational trainers, and community mobilizers to deliver integrated services.
  • Collaborate with RWWS staff and UN Women partners to align midwifery services with the overall project goals.
  • Participate in coordination meetings with government health departments, NGOs, and local service providers.

Monitoring, Reporting, and Learning

  • Keep accurate service delivery records, registers, and case notes, ensuring data confidentiality.
  • Submit weekly and monthly reports on health service provision, challenges, and progress to the Program Manager.
  • Support monitoring and evaluation activities by providing required data, success stories, and lessons learned.
  • Participate in reflection sessions with project staff to adapt services based on community feedback.

Capacity Building & Community Engagement

  • Mentor and train community health volunteers to conduct outreach and health awareness campaigns.
  • Support the development of IEC (Information, Education, and Communication) materials for reproductive health awareness.
  • Encourage women and girls to access other MPWC services, including vocational training, literacy programs, and leadership activities.

Safeguarding & Protection Compliance

  • Ensure all interactions with women and girls are survivor-centered, confidential, and respectful.
  • Adhere strictly to RWWS’s safeguarding policies, including Protection from Sexual Harassment, Exploitation, and Abuse (SHEA), Child Protection Policy, and Gender Policy.
  • Immediately report any safeguarding concerns following RWWS protocols.

Direct Collaboration with: Project staff, community mobilizers, psychosocial support officers, and volunteers.

External Linkages: Local health authorities, NGOs, and service providers for referral support.
