Responsible for:

• Acting in a subordinate capacity to the Administrator/Senior Fleet Engineer/Fleet Engineer/Assistant Fleet Engineer of Friendship. Helping with Operational/Maintenance works of all mechanical engines, i.e., main engine, generators, all types of outboard engines, and ancillary pumps.

• Responsible for all operations, maintenance, and safety aspects of the ship’s entire mechanical equipment and appliances side by side with the Driver.

• Need to participate in the operational & maintenance works of on-board electrical equipment & machinery.

Activities

• He will be responsible and accountable to the Administrator of the hospital ship and/or Senior Fleet Engineer/Fleet Engineer/Assistant Fleet Engineer of the Fleet Management Department in HO for his duties and performance.

• He is responsible for all types of engines on the ship, Mechanical equipment/appliances, and for their proper operation, routine maintenance, normal and emergency repair, as a helping hand to the Engine Driver.

• He is responsible for the general proper cleanliness and appearance of the entire mechanical equipment and appliances.

• He is responsible for keeping records of overhaul, maintenance, and running hours of all machinery and equipment, as applicable, in proper record books as permanent records of the ship under the supervision of the driver.

• He is responsible for ensuring that the entire mechanical plant, Engines, Pumps, equipment, and appliances under his supervision are in good running condition and can be immediately brought into operation in any emergency under the supervision of the driver.

• He is required to be physically present in the engine room to assist the Engine Driver during all maneuvering and in maintenance/repair of machinery and other equipment of the ship.

• He will be responsible for operational & maintenance work of on-board electrical equipment & machinery along with the engine driver.

• He can be delegated to undertake any other additional duty as required or directed by the relevant higher authority appropriate to his competency or grade, and can be transferred from ship to ship as per operational requirement or convenience of the Fleet Management Department in a post appropriate to his competency or grade.

• He will always be required to observe and uphold Friendship’s Code of Ethics, Policies & Guidelines, Rules & Regulations, Personnel & Confidentiality Policies.

Skill and Competencies

Education     : Minimum SSC

Qualification: Mechanical/Marine Certificate or equivalent from a recognized training institute. Maybe relaxed in case of shipboard experience.  

Knowledge   : Operation and maintenance of ship or shore-based Engine maintenance experience. Ability to write reports about breakdown and repair.

 Skill              : Communication, motivation, and the ability to make decisions under pressure.   

Experience    : Holding Certificate as stated above: 02 to 03 years practical experience on board ships or in shore-based industrial plant with the requisite knowledge as stated above. Without Holding any Certificate: Minimum 05 years’ practical shipboard experience in the operation and maintenance of the mechanical and electrical equipment.

Experience in maintaining outboard engines of any kind is strictly required.
