Job Summary/ Context: 

The Manager-Production & Commercial (R&D Farm) will play a crucial role in identifying and pursuing new business opportunities within the agriculture sector. This position involves developing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, driving the R&D farm's land utilization and commercial profitability initiatives in collaboration with management, and achieving business growth targets. Their role is to ensure smooth Production & commercial operations and contribute to the overall success of the business. Furthermore, good organizational and time management skills are necessary to handle multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

The Manager-Production & Commercial (R&D Farm) will be responsible for the overall commercial performance, crop planning, and profitability of Malik’s Farm, which serves as both the R&D center and a commercial farming operation for Malik Seeds.

This role requires a strong agriculturalist with commercial knowledge, capable of planning and executing profitable farming operations across vegetables, fruits, potato, orchards, while aligning with Malik Seeds’ broader business objectives. The manager will design annual and multi-year farm business plans, decide what to grow, when to grow, and where to sell, and ensure optimal utilization of land, labor, and resources.

In addition to managing commercial plots, the role will work closely with the R&D team to translate research trials into commercial opportunities. The individual will be responsible for market linkage, cost control, yield optimization, and revenue generation, ensuring Malik’s Farm operates as a model, profitable agricultural enterprise.

This position demands strong planning skills, agricultural technical knowledge, financial understanding, and the ability to translate farm operations into clear reports, forecasts, and business plans for management.

Key Assignments/ Duties:

  • The individual will be responsible for understanding the business requirements, target markets, including industry, company, project, company contacts and market strategies to attract clients and customers.

  • Make quarterly, half-yearly & yearly production planning mentioning the plot size.

  • Build interest in products and services by promoting, networking, and developing relations with local clients.

  • Create & manage different marketing channels, sources and vendors.

  • Commercial GAP Practice.

  • Ensure security to commercial plots and orchards.

  • Develop and manage the project as required, including research assignments, presentations and project documents for business development initiatives and marketing.

  • Monitor incoming communications and leads for agricultural practices and market best opportunities.

  • Make regular market visits to build and maintain potential customers.

  • The production team should work according to the instructions of the Manager-Production & Commercial.

  • All safety instructions must be followed.

  • Build and maintain effective relationships with clients, suppliers and internal teams.

Commercial Farming & Profitability

  • Develop and execute annual, seasonal, and multi-year commercial farming plans for Malik’s Farm, covering vegetables, fruits, orchards, and other crops.

  • Decide crop selection, land allocation, rotation plans, and orchard strategies based on profitability, market demand, and agronomic suitability.

  • Prepare costing, revenue projections, and profit analysis for each crop and season.

 Crop Planning & Team Management

  • Oversee crop scheduling, planting, harvesting timelines, and field staff planning.

  • Coordinate closely with the R&D team to scale successful trial varieties and practices into commercial production.

  • Supervise farm workers, and supervisors and ensure efficient use of labor, inputs, machinery, and infrastructure.

 Market Linkage & Sales

  • Develop and maintain market channels for selling farm produce (local markets, institutional buyers, B2B buyers, exporters, or internal use).

  • Lead negotiations with buyers to ensure competitive pricing.

  • Identify new commercial opportunities for Malik’s Farm produce aligned with Malik Seeds’ strategy.

 Reporting, Planning & Systems

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on production, costs, yields, and profitability.

  • Develop 1-year and 3-year farm business plans for review by management.

  • Support management with data-driven insights on farm expansion, new crops, and investment decisions.
