Educational Requirements:
∎ In order to be considered eligible for an internship, the following criteria must be fulfilled:
∎ Be a recent graduate or current student in a graduate/undergraduate school programme from a university or higher education facility accredited by UNESCO; and
∎ Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant or of interest to the work of the Organization.

∎ Operational Context:
∎ The Intern will work closely with the colleagues responsible primarily for sustainable natural resource management, capacity building of actors on environmental protection and also with colleagues responsible for water and sanitation, shelter, nutrition, education, health, community services and livelihoods. The incumbent will support the UNHCR Office on all issues related to environment and energy, self-reliance and shelter/infrastructures and will make sure that UNHCR policies area and interventions are in line with global and national strategies.
∎ The intern is expected to document best practices, gaps, and result of ongoing initiatives that are in line with organizations policy and procedures and draft effective communication for media and external actors. It is desired that the incumbent will come up with innovative solutions to the problems faced in the field in terms of environmental protection.
∎ The intern will undertake visits to the camps and liaise with Sub-offices on the implementation of environment, self-reliance and shelters/site planning programmes. In addition, the incumbent will maintain regular contact, with UN technical agencies, implementing and operational partners as needed.
∎ Prospective intern will be able to experience international working environment, how interventions are designed, implemented, monitored and evaluated. In addition, environment is humanitarian settings is an exploring field that enrich incumbent`s profile. The successful applicant will gain in depth experience across environment, conservation and fuel related interventions in a humanitarian setting.
Job Responsibilities:
∎ The intern will perform the following tasks:
∎ Document best practices/lessons for dissemination and implementation in the areas of natural resource management, forestry, sustainable agriculture, domestic energy and environmental education sectors.
∎ Engage with communities (both UNHCR and refugee community) on environmental challenges.
∎ Draft communication strategy centering important dates significant to environmental protection highlighting environment and energy initiatives linking with environment protection, peaceful co-existence, and livelihoods.
∎ Draft media pieces with positive impact on all ongoing energy and environment initiatives that highlights and compliments UNHCR's mandate- in collaboration with public information and external relations unit.
∎ Collect and update data on key areas of environment, energy, livelihood and shelter activities and identify means to mitigate the impact on natural resources.
∎ Assist UNHCR with organizing training activities with implementing partners to address key areas of environmental management, climate change and domestic energy issues to refugees and other person of concern.
∎ Undertake other duties and required.
Additional Requirements:
∎ An individual whose father, mother, son, daughter, brother or sister is a staff member of UNHCR, including a Temporary Appointment holder or a member of the Affiliate Workforce, is not eligible for an internship.
∎
∎ Desirable Qualifications & Competencies:
∎ Recent graduate or current student (completed at least two years in a undergraduate school programme) in Environmental Sciences, Natural Resources Management, Agriculture, Conservation Forestry journalism with major in environmental communication.
∎ Awareness of and practical experience with refugee or development related environment problems is desirable.
∎ Relevant experience in drafting media piece on environmental issues, research on integrated environmental programmes/projects in displacement and stable situations.
∎ Familiarity with emerging environmentally sustainable and appropriate technologies and renewable energy.
∎ Familiarity with community-based and participatory approaches.
∎ Ability to work with various (relevant) computer software.
∎ Good knowledge of English. Knowledge of local language and institutions.
∎ Basic understanding of Rohingya is desirable.
Compensation & Other Benefits:
∎ An intern will receive 10% of DSA (Daily Subsistence Allowance) for Cox's Bazar per day up to maximum of 30 days in a month payable in local currency.
