AkijBashir Group is one of the leading conglomerates of Bangladesh, with 20+ businesses and 28,000+ employees across building materials, jute, tea, steel, films, energy and aviation.

We are looking for an experienced corporate lawyer to lead the Legal Affairs function of the group. The incumbent will report to the Deputy Managing Director and will be responsible for litigation, land and property matters, contracts, corporate compliance and legal risk management for all group companies.

Job Responsibilities

•     Lead the Legal Affairs function and advise management and business heads on all legal matters.

•     Supervise all civil, criminal, labour, land, NI Act and artha rin cases by or against group companies; coordinate and monitor panel lawyers.

•     Handle land and property matters — title verification, deed vetting, mutation, khatian, DCR and land disputes.

•     Draft, vet and negotiate commercial contracts, agreements, legal notices and replies.

•     Ensure RJSC and corporate secretarial compliance — resolutions, returns, share transfers and statutory registers.

•     Advise HR on Bangladesh Labour Act matters, disciplinary proceedings and labour court cases.

•     Manage regulatory and licensing matters with BIDA, DoE, BSTI, Fire Service and other authorities.

•     Protect trademarks and intellectual property of the group.

•     Build legal risk-management systems and standard contract templates; lead and develop the legal team.

•     Submit regular legal status reports to management.

Experience Requirements

•     12 to 15 years of legal experience.

•     At least 7 years in-house in a large manufacturing or multi-business group of companies, including minimum 3 years leading a legal team.

Additional Requirements

•     Strong working knowledge of land law, litigation, contract law, Companies Act, Bangladesh Labour Act and NI Act.

•     Ability to deal independently with courts, government offices and regulators.

•     Excellent drafting skills in English and Bangla.

•     High integrity, sound judgement and ability to maintain confidentiality.

•     Willing to travel to factories and project sites across the country.
