∎ General Manager - Practical Action Consulting, Bangladesh (PAC) plays a leadership role within the Senior Management Team accountable for the effective business development and quality assurance of contracts/ assignments required to build our profile and achieve the change ambitions of Practical Action Bangladesh.
∎ General Manager - PAC Bangladesh is accountable for Business Development, Marketing, and quality control of the services delivered by the Practical Action Consulting (PAC). The core purpose of this role is to roll out PAC`s overall business plan, enable viable models of service delivery and maintain international standards in a proactive and responsive way to meet the change ambition. The position-holder and the team will support strategic relationships with clients and donors, creating a strong profile for the organization in Bangladesh that builds credibility and demonstrates technological innovation. The person will ensure sound financial management. As a member of the Bangladesh Senior Management team, s/he will collaborate closely with senior colleagues to ensure integration of approaches.
∎ The GM PAC, Bangladesh will provide leadership and management across all the areas including developing a strategy to win and deliver high quality and high impact consultancy projects in line with our change ambitions. He/she will manage relationships, to strengthen the sustainability agenda of PAC Bangladesh by leading and managing people, deliver performance, and achieve change & impacts. Accountabilities are indicated below with approximate level of effort against each.
Job Responsibilities:
∎ Leadership, Management and People 20%:
∎
∎ Promote an organisational culture for learning and seeking to achieve change at scale, beyond our work
∎ Create an environment that embraces change, makes change happen - even if the change is radical. Helps others to accept new ideas
∎ Lead, manage and support Practical Action Consulting team members to achieve change ambitions, encouraging joined up ways of working with Business Development, Thematic Areas and other Units in Practical Action
∎ Line manage and provide leadership to associate consultants and hired consultants for consulting works and oversee other team members in doing the same.
∎ Create an enabling environment for optimum utilization of resources and staff capacities
∎ Lead and manage performance of the PAC team and hold them accountable for technical delivery, financial control, management of associates, donor reporting, strategic fit, contract preparation and conformance of the assignment.
∎ Manage and control PAC finance to comply with the financial policies of Government of Bangladesh and Practical Action
∎ Work with the finance team (local and UK) to prepare and submit correct monthly, quarterly and annual financial report on time as scheduled.
∎ Achieving Change Ambitions and Strengthening Organisational Profile 30%:
∎ Take lead in strategic and business planning and ensure all work developed and implemented is strategic to the Group, Practical Action Bangladesh and Practical Action Consulting Bangladesh
∎ Understand Practical Action Consulting Bangladesh's potentials and scope for contributing to the change ambitions; and develop strategy or plan for making these contributions. While doing so s/he needs to analyse and integrate the cultural, political and economic factors - using a systems thinking approach
∎ Ensure bids, projects/awards are aligned and contribute to change ambitions
∎ Explore, lead, manage and ensure delivery of consultancy work and contribute to the growing portfolio of Practical Action Consultancy as per the Strategy with support from the team members
∎ Work closely with Strategic Leads to ensure that project/programme/technical assistance activities are designed and executed to deliver change ambition evidence, learning and influencing targets
∎ Raise the profile of Practical Action Consulting with donors, governments, NGOs and the private sector.
∎ Represent Practical Action Consulting, particularly for liaising, coordinating, networking and leading projects
∎ Provide leadership for the development of PAC brand essence and positioning with a focus on how brand supports its identity and position with institutional donors and corporate bodies
∎ Generating Funding and Managing Relationships 30%:
∎ Take leadership in research, marketing, client relationship, networking and contract management for Practical Action Consulting in close coordination with Country Director, Strategic Leads, Head of Programme Delivery and Business Development.
∎ Facilitate development of high quality Expressions of Interest (EOIs) and proposals resulting in the securing of consultancy fee earning work.
∎ Work with team members and oversee team members to design and deliver, consultancy projects according to an international standard.
∎ Enhance capacity of PAC to deliver in the areas of Climate Change, Renewable Energy, Agriculture an inclusive market, water, sanitation & hygiene and waste management
∎ Delivering Performance as One Practical Action 20%:
∎ Work with Practical Action Consulting Global team, SMT of Bangladesh office and ensure regular communication
∎ Actively contribute to the development and delivery of PAC Global strategy including promoting innovative interventions
∎ Work as an integral part of the PAC Global team, delivering to both national and PAC global strategy
∎ In collaboration with others in PAC and PA, develop internal systems for integrating and creating coherence and synergy between the work of Practical Action Consulting and Practical Action and have good coordination with Thematic Leads
∎ Actively work with the Head of Business Development, Thematic Areas, PAC International and PAC Global to build-in into upcoming proposals pipeline and ensuring high quality and winning proposals
∎ Support in capturing of learnings and MEL.
Additional Requirements:
∎ Significant professional experience in Consultancy/ business development/ fund raising/ resource mobilization for a national or international development organization. Working as a consultant abroad will be an added advantage.
∎ Demonstrated experience in managing innovation and turning knowledge into practices
∎ Demonstrated experience of effective proposal writing, business development and/or fundraising
∎ Demonstrated experience of technical and/or project management skills in a consultancy/international development context
∎ Experience of managing multi-functional team in context
∎ Knowledge and experience in one or more of PAC strategic/thematic focal areas, for example: Climate Change, Renewable Energy, Agriculture an inclusive market, water, sanitation & hygiene and waste management will be appreciated
∎ Excellent written and oral communication skill and able to communicate to different segments of audiences
∎ Ability to maintain customer relationships effectively; which includes tackling difficult clients and their issues
∎ Ability to work without being supervised, and meeting tight deadlines
∎ Strong analytical and Good enough data management and research skills
∎ Ability to be creative and innovative in handling situations
∎ Ability to work under pressure and still remain effective
Salary:
∎ Monthly Gross BDT 177,000 to BDT 185,000.
