Job Responsibilities:
∎ Key responsibilities related to the implementation of the 5- year Gender Equality Strategy (GES) and Action Plan include, but are not limited to:
∎ 1. GE Analysis, Planning and Reporting
∎ Undertake periodic gender-based analysis plus (GBA+), informed by findings arising from ongoing project implementation, current research, global best practice, and periodic consultations with key stakeholders, in particular nurses, nurse leaders, and nurse representative groups.
∎ Disseminate findings of periodic GBA+ with Team Leader, HQ-based GE Adviser, M&E Specialist, and Implementation Leads.
∎ Adapt 5-year GES, as needed, based on findings of GBA+, with approval of the Team Leader.
∎ Develop an annual GE workplan, including mainstreaming GE into yearly implementation activities and proposing targeted GE interventions, based on 5-year GES and Action Plan, and where needed, on identified new GE constraints and/or opportunities.
∎ Ensure alignment between annual GE workplan and Project Annual Plan.
∎ Work with Implementation Leads to collect, collate, and synthesize data and information on implementation of GE mainstreaming activities, to feed into annual and six-monthly project reporting.
∎ Report on implementation of targeted GE interventions to feed into annual and six-monthly project reporting.
∎ 2. GE Capacity Building and Awareness Raising
∎ Develop and deliver annual GE refresher training for project team, including project partners and consultants, adapted to the priorities and activities identified in annual GE workplan, and GE constraints and opportunities.
∎ Work closely with Implementation Leads and support them in their responsibilities for implementing GE-mainstreamed implementation activities.
∎ Identify and/or develop and deliver fit-for-purpose tools, guides, and other resources to support Implementation Leads in delivering GE-mainstreamed implementation activities.
∎ Develop and deliver tailored and learner-centered GE orientations relevant to the nursing profession, including those incorporated into specific and planned technical trainings (i.e., clinical, management, teacher trainings), targeted to nurses and institutional actors within the nursing sector.
∎ 3. Integration of GE considerations in all key Project Deliverables
∎ Ensure that the Project's ongoing technical assistance and organizational strengthening support delivered to institutional partners in the health sector, are gender responsive and informed by findings of the GBA+ (e.g., development of gender-responsive nursing career path and a gender-responsive professional development program for nurses).
∎ Review selected project documents and deliverables, such as, annual work plans, training manuals, donor reports etc with gender lens and ensure all assessments and studies include gender indicators.
∎ Ensure that the Project's renovation work of College of Nursing and Nurses Teachers Training Centre (NTTC) addresses gender equality and accessibility considerations.
∎ Ensure that all technical training tools, materials, curricula, and programs developed for different nurse cadres including teachers (in clinical care settings and in educational institutes) are gender-responsive, socially inclusive, accessible, and tailored to the local context (including addressing gender-based and social inclusion barriers to access to care by vulnerable and marginalized groups).
∎ 4. Empowerment and Collaboration with Nurse Leaders and representative groups, women's rights organizations, and institutional GE machinery
∎ Engage with women's rights organizations (WROs) and/or groups who advocate for the increased voice, influence, and rights of women within the health care sector.
∎ Work with Bangladesh Nurses Association (BNA) and the Project's partner WRO to advocate for greater women's and nurse leadership in global and public health and improved status and working conditions for nursing including: i) implementation of an advocacy agenda, ii) establishment of a platform for knowledge sharing and learning, iii) implementation of an image building media campaign.
∎ Keep close contact with the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs (MOWCA) and stay updated on government policies related to gender to ensure that the Project GES is updated accordingly.

Additional Requirements:
∎ Minimum 10 years of experience as a Gender Specialist in Bangladesh and/or within the broader global development context.
∎ Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the health sector, specifically the nursing profession, and issues related human resources for health and health systems strengthening.
∎ Demonstrated experience in integrating gender equality considerations within institutional capacity development.
∎ Demonstrated experience providing support to, and working with WROs, particularly in Bangladesh.
∎ Experience with GAC funded project and DGNM will be considered an asset.
