Additional Requirements:
  • Age 30 to 45 years
  • Master’s degree preferably in Social Science, Peace & Conflict Studies, Development Studies, Law, English, or other relevant subject from any reputed university.

  • Minimum 5-7 years of relevant experience in mediation, conflict resolution, or case documentation. Prior experience in the Rohingya response or humanitarian context will be an advantage with proven experience in qualitative documentation, case writing, and reporting

  • Strong understanding of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) process, community conflict dynamics, and mediation techniques

  • Mediation & Conflict Resolution Skills: Strong ability to analyze conflicts, facilitate dialogue, and support peaceful dispute resolution at the community level

  • Case Documentation & Analytical Writing: Expertise in developing high-quality case studies, human-interest stories, and qualitative reports

  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication in both Bangla and English

  • Facilitation & Capacity Building: Skill in training, mentoring, and guiding mediators and community groups

  • Gender & Protection Sensitivity: Sound understanding of gender-responsive programming, safeguarding, and PSEA principles

  • Confidentiality & Ethical Practice: Ability to handle sensitive information with integrity and maintain strict confidentiality

Responsibilities & Context:

Responsibilities & Context:

Friends in Village Development Bangladesh (FIVDB), in partnership with GIZ under the SHADE Project, is implementing community-based conflict resolution and social cohesion initiatives in Cox’s Bazar. The program aims to strengthen gender-responsive and peaceful conflict resolution skills among advanced FDMN and host community mediators, fostering mutual understanding and promoting harmonious coexistence between FDMN and host communities in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar.

The Specialist – Mediation & Case Documentation will be based in the Project Office, with frequent travel to Rohingya camps and host communities. S/he will play a key role in strengthening mediation processes, documenting conflict cases, and ensuring quality reporting for learning and advocacy. The position is contractual for the project duration, with an initial three (3) months’ probation period.

Key responsibilities

Planning and Programme Implementation:

  • Document cases in detail and produce high-quality reports and case stories.

  • Lead and support community-based mediation processes in both host and displaced communities

  • Provide technical guidance and capacity building to mediators, Peace Promotion Groups (PPGs), and the Project Team.

  • Ensure gender-responsive and conflict-sensitive approaches in mediation practices

  • Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards in handling sensitive cases

  • Coordinate with project team members and stakeholders for effective implementation

  • Contribute to project reports, donor updates, and knowledge products

  • Facilitate ToT & refresher training for the frontline staff.

  • Ensure timely delivery in compliance with donor requirements, while regularly tracking progress against targets.

  • Represent FIVDB with donor and other relevant agencies at Teknaf/Cox’s Bazar level.

  • Attend regular review and coordination meetings with the project team.

  • Good understanding on Gender, Gender Based Violence and prevention

  • Provide other necessary support to the team for timely and quality delivery of the program.

  • Contribute in creation of an inclusive work environment for marginalised populations including indigenous groups and women - ensuring a gender equitable, women and PWDs friendly, sensitive work environment.

  • Undertake additional duties as assigned.

Community Engagement and Capacity Building:

  • Conduct regular learning, sharing, and accountability sessions to gather feedback and drive continuous improvement.

  • Support project initiatives to strengthen staff capacity and build capacity of local facilitators and volunteers through on-the-job coaching.

Monitoring, Reporting, and Documentation:

  • Develop and maintain a structured system for case documentation and reporting

  • Prepare high-quality case stories, success stories, and learning documents

  • Conduct regular field visits to monitor mediation activities and enhance quality by integrating feedback, best practices, and evidence-based approaches.

  • Assist in thorough documentation of FIVDB’s project experiences and lessons, including success impactful stories, supported by photos, videos and relevant annexes aligning with donor and FIVDB guidelines.

  • Support in preparing monthly monitoring report.

 Coordination:

  • Represent the project in technical working groups, capacity-building forums, and relevant coordination meetings and coordinate with Sectoral Structures.

  • Facilitate cross-learning and collaboration among community groups, and institutional actors.

  • Other representation as required
