Responsibilities & Context:

Ocean Freight Procurement

  • Negotiate ocean freight rates, surcharges, free time, and space commitments with shipping lines, NVOCCs, and overseas agents.

  • Manage export and import contracts, spot rates, and long-term agreements across key trade lanes.

  • Maintain strong relationships with carriers and global partners to ensure service reliability and capacity availability.

Rate Management & Market Intelligence

  • Prepare, maintain, and update export and import rate structures and contracts.

  • Monitor market trends, including GRI, PSS, capacity constraints, and port congestion.

  • Share market insights with management and sales to support pricing and commercial strategies.

Support to Sales & Key Accounts

  • Provide timely and competitive ocean freight rates for quotations, RFQs, and tenders.

  • Support key export and import customers, including nomination and free hand cargo.

  • Assist the commercial team in securing new business and retaining existing accounts.

Operational Coordination

  • Work closely with operations teams to ensure space, equipment availability, and smooth shipment execution.

  • Handle escalations related to rolled cargo, delays, equipment shortages, demurrage, and detention issues.

Vendor, Contract & Compliance Management

  • Evaluate, select, and manage shipping lines and overseas partners in line with company procurement policies.

  • Ensure compliance with contracts, SLAs, and international trade regulations.

  • Maintain accurate documentation and procurement records.

Reporting & Cost Control

  • Analyze procurement performance, cost trends, and savings opportunities.

  • Prepare regular reports on rates, carrier performance, volumes, and procurement efficiency.

Team Support & Leadership

  • Guide and support junior procurement team members as required.

  • Act as a key backup to the manager/head of ocean freight in procurement-related matters.
