Job Context:
∎ The Global Health Advocacy Incubator (GHAI), a program of the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, draws on lessons from tobacco control and its growing experience on other public health issues to support policy change campaigns around the globe to improve health. Currently, that work includes cardiovascular health, drowning prevention, road safety, obesity prevention, preventing epidemics, and civil registration and vital statistics.
∎ The Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids is a non-profit, public health advocacy organization that has worked for 20 years to help pass evidence-based tobacco control policies in the U.S. and in more than 50 countries around the world.
∎ Program and Position Summary: As the advocacy partner in the Bloomberg Initiative to Reduce Childhood Drowning, GHAI works with local partners to raise awareness of drowning as a public health issue, increase public demand, and create a conducive media environment to build political support for policy change and public financing for program sustainability. In partnership with key global partners like WHO, GHAI also supports governments as they design, implement and scale evidence based drowning prevention interventions.
∎ We are seeking a dynamic Communications Manager who will work with our in-country partners to support their communications advocacy efforts. The goal will be to create an environment conducive to program sustainability by reaching the public, but especially decision makers, through proactive earned, social and paid media outreach. This position is based in Dhaka, Bangladesh, and reports to the Director for South Asia.

Job Responsibilities:
∎ Design and implement integrated earned media and communications strategies, in partnership with other Bangladeshi and international NGOs, that include - but are not limited to - proactive and reactive media relations and press outreach; social media; digital platforms and tools; and influencer engagement
∎ Provide ongoing communications support and technical assistance to in-country partners, including refining communications strategy, developing key messages, and assisting in conducting ongoing media outreach
∎ Create print, digital, electronic and broadcast media materials that will effectively reach specifically targeted groups, generate public interest in support of drowning prevention
∎ Media tracking of media monitoring reports to optimize coverage
∎ Assess media landscape and ensure that partners are proactively creating and taking advantage of media opportunities. In addition, provide support on the development of content for digital properties like website, social media channels, and blogs.
∎ Media outreach in collaboration with partners in Bangladesh in support of key activities, including press conferences, media briefings, forums, data releases, journalism trainings, etc
∎ Develop a program brand working with government agencies and contracted agency as well as communications materials;
∎ Media training: prepare spokespeople and coalition members for media interviews.
∎ Draft, edit and distribute high-quality media relations and other communications materials, including news releases and statements, op-eds, letters to the editor, editorial memos, etc.
∎ Oversee production of communication materials (e.g. brochures, phablets, videos, etc.);
∎ Oversee relationships with and output of communications agencies and consultants, including PR agencies and media monitoring vendors in countries;
∎ Develop monthly media reports for GHAI that outline communications highlights. Participate in planning/update calls with GHAI on an ongoing basis.

∎ Qualifications:
∎ A strong understanding of how to use earned, paid and social media to not only raise awareness, but also mobilize targeted audiences to express opinion or take action.
∎ Knowledge and experience in developing and implementing communications strategy as part of advocacy campaigns.
∎ Broad client-services experience in the field of public relations, and/or particular experience serving NGO clients in the public health arena
∎ Demonstrated ability to develop and implement media and communications strategies with measurable results;
∎ Experience in using digital communications channels in a political or issue-advocacy policy setting.
∎ The ability to transfer this knowledge to the local NGO partners who may have limited experience with digital and earned advocacy campaigns.
∎ Proven ability to develop robust tracking and measurement programs to establish goals, test/optimize tactics, and monitor progress.
∎ Expertise in developing and implementing rapid response programs in social and earned media and collecting petition signatures online for a campaign.
∎ Experience working in coalition or alliance settings with multiple stakeholders who need to execute a consistent, unified campaign.
∎ Requirements:
∎ Fluency in Bangla and English
∎ Five to seven years plus of experience managing media campaigns/services for a brand or organization
∎ A strong understanding of issue advocacy using media and how to influence the public policy development process.
∎ Understands how to utilize online tools to build and mobilize communities to achieve public policy objectives.
∎ Excellent communicator and creative thinker, with an ability to use both data and intuition to inform decisions.
∎ Proficiency in Facebook, website, YouTube, and Twitter analytics and social listening tools.
∎ Ideally, experience and skills include graphic design, blogging, and community outreach.
