The Chief Officer (CMO) plays a vital role in ensuring continuous and effective patient care within the private hospital setting. Positioned as the first-line medical responder, the CMO is responsible for the day-to-day monitoring and management of inpatients, assisting consultants during clinical procedures, and handling medical emergencies with prompt decision-making. CMOs serve as a crucial link between patients, nursing staff, and senior medical professionals, ensuring seamless coordination of care. Their presence ensures 24/7 medical support, enhances patient safety, and contributes significantly to maintaining high standards of clinical service within the hospital.
Job Responsibilities:
Patient Care & Monitoring:
Provide round-the-clock medical care to admitted patients.
Monitor patients' vital signs, symptoms, and treatment progress regularly.
Respond promptly to medical emergencies and inform senior consultants as needed.
Clinical Support:
Assist consultants during medical procedures and surgeries.
Implement treatment plans as prescribed by attending physicians.
Perform basic medical procedures such as IV insertion, catheterization, and wound dressing.
Medical Documentation:
Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including clinical notes, medication charts, and investigation reports.
Ensure proper handover of patient information during shift changes.
Coordination & Communication:
Coordinate with nursing staff, lab technicians, and other departments to ensure timely diagnostics and care delivery.
Communicate with patients' families regarding treatment updates and progress when required.
Medication Management:
Administer prescribed medications and ensure proper dosage and timing.
Monitor patients for adverse drug reactions and report any complications.
Emergency Management:
Provide immediate care during medical or surgical emergencies until a specialist is available.
Ensure patients are stabilized and transferred to ICU or referred as needed.
Ward Rounds:
Conduct regular ward rounds with or without senior doctors to evaluate patient conditions.
Update treatment protocols as directed by senior consultants.
Compliance & Safety:
Ensure adherence to hospital protocols, infection control policies, and patient safety standards.
Report incidents, complications, or unusual cases to the concerned authority.
Training & Development:
Participate in training sessions, case discussions, and continued medical education (CME) programs.
Mentor junior CMOs or interns, if applicable.
Shift Handover & Reporting:
Provide detailed handovers to the incoming CMO during shift changes.
Prepare daily reports and submit updates to senior medical staff or hospital administration.
