Education:
    • Diploma in Nursing
    • Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Nursing
  • Valid registration from Bangladesh Nursing Council.

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) is highly desirable.

  • Evidence of ongoing professional development, clinical leadership skills, and the ability to supervise junior staff.

  • Clinical Expertise: Specialist knowledge of caring for critically ill children, including mechanical ventilation, hemodynamic monitoring, and management of complex conditions.

  • Leadership: Ability to take charge of a ward or department, delegate effectively, and motivate a team.

  • Communication: Excellent verbal, written, and numeric communication skills for interacting with patients, families, and the multidisciplinary team.

  • Problem-Solving: Critical thinking skills to assess patient needs, prioritize care, and make sound clinical judgments under pressure.

  • Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team while also using own initiative.

  • Compassion: A caring and sensitive approach to the needs of patients, parents, and other staff.



Responsibilities & Context:

Clinical Practice

  • Patient Assessment & Care: Deliver safe, compassionate, and individualized care to critically ill paediatric patients. Conduct continuous patient assessments, prioritize care based on the severity of the condition, and evaluate outcomes.

  • Life-Support Equipment Management: Monitor and manage life-support equipment such as ventilators, infusion pumps, hemofiltration machines, and central lines.

  • Advanced Procedures: Undertake advanced clinical procedures including tracheostomy care, non-invasive ventilation (CPAP/BiPAP), central venous access management, and administration of intravenous drugs.

  • Emergency Response: Assist with emergency interventions, lead where appropriate during paediatric resuscitation, and respond to critical situations within the unit and hospital (e.g., as part of a clinical emergency team).

  • Medication Administration: Administer medications safely, including controlled drugs and emergency medications, demonstrating thorough knowledge of I.V. fluid and drug calculations.

  • Monitoring & Documentation: Interpret clinical data to identify patient deterioration and respond appropriately. Document all nursing care accurately in accordance with hospital policies.

Leadership & Management

  • Shift Coordination: Act as a clinical role model and shift leader, coordinating the allocation of care and managing the unit in the absence of the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse.

  • Staff Supervision: Supervise, delegate tasks to, and support junior nursing staff (Band 5 nurses), student nurses, and healthcare assistants.

  • Resource Management: Ensure the effective management of staff and other resources, including the preparation of the PICU area for scheduled and emergency patients.

  • Quality & Safety: Participate in clinical audits, risk management, and quality improvement projects including PICU, Sterilization, Fumigation process. Escalate safety hazards and ensure compliance with infection control and patient safety goals.

  • Complaint Resolution: Participate in the resolution of complaints and adverse incidents, supporting the development of action plans to prevent recurrence.

Education & Mentorship

  • Clinical Role Model: Demonstrate clinical excellence and serve as a professional role model, promoting evidence-based practice and a progressive attitude toward patient care improvement.

Family-Centered Care

  • Communication: Communicate sensitively and effectively with children, families, and carers during distressing and challenging situations. Provide documented patient and family health education.

  • Advocacy: Act as an advocate for the child and family, ensuring their values, preferences, and needs are considered in all aspects of care.
