Responsibilities & Context:
Pre-operative Assessment: Evaluates patients pre-surgery to determine anesthetic risk and optimize their condition. This involves reviewing medical history and diagnostic tests.
Administering Anesthesia: Administers various forms of anesthesia (general, regional, local) and monitors the patient's vital signs throughout the procedure, adjusting anesthesia levels as needed to maintain stability.
Intraoperative Management: Manages the patient's airway, ventilation, and hemodynamics during surgery. This includes performing tracheal intubation and managing cardiac arrhythmias.
Post-operative Care: Provides post-anesthesia care, manages pain, and handles acute complications following surgery.
Critical Care & Resuscitation: Provides life support and resuscitation services throughout the hospital, often participating in the care of critically ill patients.
Consultation & Supervision: Acts as a consultant in pain management and critical care, and supervises and trains junior medical staff (residents, medical officers).
