  • Understanding of the tourism industry, particularly in Bangladesh.

  • Familiarity with sustainable tourism practices.

  • Contract negotiation and management.

  • Techniques for handling customer feedback, complaints, and cancellations.

Project Brief:

BRAC-Otithi aims to transform tourism in Bangladesh by connecting urban generations with rural communities, uncovering hidden cultural and natural treasures. Otithi focuses on celebrating and preserving local traditions while empowering communities through sustainable tourism. By showcasing the beauty of unexplored areas, BRAC-Otithi seeks to create unforgettable journeys for both local and foreign travelers.

Job Purpose:

The Area Manager will be responsible for overseeing key administrative, operational, and logistical functions of Otithi’s community-based tourism initiatives in the region. This role ensures seamless day-to-day operations, strong community and partner relationships, exceptional guest experience, and compliance with financial and operational standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of Otithi activities in Sreemangal, Sylhet and adjacent areas, ensuring operational excellence and timely coordination of all service components.

  • Manage tour scheduling, pre-tour preparation, and on-ground arrangements to deliver the best possible customer experience.

  • Ensure all logistical necessities, transportation, meals, cultural experiences, accommodation, and community engagement are arranged efficiently and on time.

  • Work closely with tour guides and area ambassadors to maintain consistent service quality across all guest touchpoints.

  • Accompany guests on trips when required to ensure smooth execution, provide support, and build a warm and engaging guest relationship.

  • Develop and finalise the budget before any scoping or community onboarding activities to ensure proper resource allocation and project readiness.

  • Evaluate cost structures and work with management to optimise expenditure without compromising guest experience.

  • Maintain strong, trust-based relationships with external partners, local vendors, community hosts, guides, and suppliers to ensure seamless operations.

  • Collaborate with the team to identify operational inefficiencies and develop mitigation strategies.

  • Monitor customer feedback from inquiry to post-tour evaluation to identify service gaps and actionable improvements.

  • Uphold Otithi’s values of warmth, community connection, and meaningful experiences throughout the guest journey.

Safeguarding Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the safety of team members from any harm, abuse, neglect, harassment and exploitation to achieve the programme’s goals on safeguarding implementation. Act as a key source of support, guidance and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment.

  • Practice, promote and endorse the issues of safeguarding policy among team members and ensure the implementation of safeguarding standards in every course of action.

  • Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place, and encourage others to do so.
