Job Context:
Partners in Health and Development (PHD) a reputed national NGO, with technical and financial support from international development partners (UNFPA / Global Affairs Canada), is implementing a Improve rights to sexual, reproductive, maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health (SRMNCAH) and well-being for vulnerable populations in low-performing Bhola districts of Bangladesh project to strengthen Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (CEmONC) services at District Hospital level.
The project aims to improve quality, access, and equity in life-saving maternal and newborn health services, including 24/7 C-section and emergency obstetric care. Applications are invited from qualified and committed medical professionals.
Job Responsibilities (Anesthesiologist)
As part of the general responsibilities, the Anesthesiologist will contribute direct clinical expertise to patient care and provide professional guidance to colleagues, ensuring effective risk management and the highest standards of patient safety. The role includes supporting accurate and timely diagnosis, peri-operative care planning, and identifying areas for improvement in patient flow and service quality. The incumbent will collaborate closely with the Upazila Health Complex (UHC) and contribute to medical administration, data management, and compliance with national healthcare regulations and safety standards.
Specifically, under the technical supervision of UNFPA’s Regional Office, Bhola, and in close collaboration with the respective UHC, CS Office, and relevant government institutions at Upazila level, the Anesthesiologist will undertake, but not be limited to, the following
responsibilities:
Provide anesthesia care and clinical consultation for obstetric, gynecological, and neonatal cases, particularly those referred from UH&FWCs, USCs, Community Clinics, and the community.
Deliver life-saving anesthesia and critical care support for MNCAH cases, including medico-legal emergencies, ensuring no avoidable delay at any point of entry to the Health Complex.
Ensure 24/7 anesthesia and peri-operative coverage through roster duties and provide continuous care to patients admitted in inpatient wards as required.
Conduct pre-anesthetic assessment and continuously monitor, interpret, and respond to vital signs and clinical parameters before, during, and after surgical procedures.
Prescribe anesthesia-related medications and pain management regimens, and provide clear counselling and information to patients and their families, including post-operative follow-up as necessary.
Provide anesthesia support for Caesarean sections, both scheduled/elective and emergency operations, in accordance with national clinical protocols.
Actively engage in referral decision-making and coordination of emergency transportation for patients requiring higher-level care.
Maintain close coordination with project partners and government counterparts, and provide technical support and mentoring to relevant clinical staff.
Follow daily OT and anesthesia safety checklists to ensure availability and proper functioning of anesthesia equipment, drugs, and medical supplies.
Contribute to the preparation of periodic technical reports, case summaries, and other information requests as required by the project and donors.
Coordinate with data entry operators to ensure accurate and timely entry of anesthesia-related and clinical data into DHIS2, while maintaining patient confidentiality.
Perform any other relevant duties assigned by the designated focal person or supervisor in line with project objectives.
Maintain a functional reporting and accountability relationship with the In-Charge of the respective Upazila Health Complex (UHC).
Carry out any additional assignments assigned by PHD management in support of project goals.
