Resource Development Foundation (RDF) is one of the largest nationwide development organizations (NGO) in Bangladesh. RDF is a distinguished development organization with a core mission to advance sustainable agriculture, enhance food security, and promote economic empowerment. The organization’s vision is tailored to address the complex challenges encountered by communities, especially in regions that are highly susceptible to the adverse effects of climate change. RDF is implementing the Sponsorship Funded Programme, funded by Plan International Bangladesh, in Barguna District. This program ensures that sponsored children, particularly girls and young women, live without fear of violence and achieve their rights. In a coastal, climate-vulnerable region like Barguna, the WASH Engineer is critical to ensuring access to safe water and climate-resilient sanitation facilities that meet gender-sensitive and inclusive standards. RDF invites applications from the competent and qualified persons for the following position for a duration of 3 (Three) Months.
Job Nature : Short Term Contract for 3 Months
Job Responsibility
Technical Design & WASH Infrastructure
Prepare detailed architectural and structural designs for climate-resilient WASH facilities (e.g., raised latrines, deep tube wells, rainwater harvesting systems, and menstrual hygiene management (MHM) friendly toilets).
Ensure designs incorporate Gender-Segregated and Disability-Inclusive (GEDSI) features.
Review and finalize technical drawings to ensure durability against salinity and cyclonic weather patterns common in Barguna.
Bill of Quantities (BOQ) & Procurement
Prepare accurate, itemized BOQs and technical specifications for all WASH-related construction.
Conduct market assessments to ensure budgeting aligns with current rates for high-quality, salt-resistant materials.
Compliance & Quality Assurance
Ensure all designs comply with the DPHE (Department of Public Health Engineering), WHO/UNICEF "WASH in Schools" (WinS) guidelines, the SDG 6.2 indicators, and the Sphere Standards applicable (can be blended) for the Coastal district like Barguna.
Align all interventions with RDF and its funding partner’s (PIB) Do No Harm standards, specifically focusing on the safety of girls and women.
Conduct an “Social and Environmental Safeguarding Assessment” as part of the compliances.
Supervision & Site Management
Provide direct technical oversight to contractors during the construction of water points and latrines.
Conduct regular site inspections to verify that material quality and construction techniques meet approved designs.
Identify technical risks (e.g., groundwater contamination or structural instability) and provide immediate mitigation plans.
Reporting & Coordination
Prepare and submit technical progress reports, including "as-built" drawings and completion certificates.
Coordinate with the Technical Officer to ensure WASH infrastructure integrates seamlessly with hygiene promotion activities.
Skills & Attributes
Strong understanding of climate-resilient construction in coastal belts.
Ability to work independently in remote field locations in Barguna.
