Reporting To: Hierarchical: Project Officer - Relief Coordination (Anas Abulaban)

Functional: Cox’s bazar project officer (Hamidul Islam)

JOB SUMMARY: The Community Health Worker (Volunteer) is responsible for supporting community-based health and WASH interventions among Rohingya refugees. The role focuses on improving health awareness, promoting positive hygiene behaviors, facilitating access to healthcare services, and supporting water and sanitation practices at the community level. The CHW serves as a key link between the community and service providers, contributing to disease prevention, early detection of health risks, and strengthening community engagement in both routine and emergency contexts.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Objective 1: Promote community health awareness and behavior change.

• Conduct regular household visits to deliver key messages on hygiene, nutrition, maternal and child health, and disease prevention.

• Promote handwashing with soap at critical times.

• Raise awareness on communicable diseases and preventive practices.

• Facilitate small group discussions and community awareness sessions.

Objective 2: Facilitate access to healthcare services and referrals.

• Identify suspected health cases (illnesses, malnutrition, maternal risks) during outreach activities.

• Refer patients to appropriate health facilities in a timely manner.

• Provide clear information on available services and schedules.

• Follow up on referred cases to ensure proper service utilization.

Objective 3: Support water point management and safe WASH practices.

• Support organization of water collection points to ensure equitable and safe access when needed.

• Promote safe water handling, storage, and usage practices at household level.

• Encourage proper use of sanitation facilities and hygiene behaviors.

• Monitor hygiene conditions around water points and report any issues.

Objective 4: Strengthen community engagement and outreach activities.

• Act as a communication link between community members and health/WASH service providers.

• Support community mobilization for campaigns (vaccination, hygiene promotion, clean-up campaigns).

• Collect and report feedback, complaints, and community concerns.

• Encourage community participation and ownership of services.

Objective 5: Support public health response and risk reduction.

• Participate in emergency response activities (disease outbreaks, seasonal risks, health alerts).

• Disseminate key health and hygiene messages during emergencies.

• Identify and report risky behaviors and environmental health hazards.

• Assist in distribution of hygiene kits or health-related supplies when required.

Objective 6: To ensure employees adhere to ethical standards, organizational policies, and legal requirements while maintaining integrity and professional conduct at all times.

• The Employee undertakes to use the Association's technological devices, software, and systems for professional purposes only.

Objective 7: Ensure the implementation of Qatar Charity’s safeguarding standards, including PSEA and GBV prevention, across all project activities to maintain a safe and accountable environment.

• Implement and monitor safeguarding measures, ensuring compliance with Qatar Charity’s PSEA and GBV policies throughout the project lifecycle.

• Abide by QC’s Child Protection and Safeguarding related policies to keep children and young people safe and to respond to concerns about a child's safety or wellbeing.

• Establish and maintain confidential, accessible reporting channels for safeguarding concerns and ensure timely response and escalation.

• Collaborate with HR and relevant departments to integrate safeguarding into field activities.

• Ensure risk assessments include safeguarding considerations and mitigation strategies for all project activities.
