Responsibilities & Context:

Job Responsibilities – NICU & PICU Staff Nurse

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to critically ill neonates, infants, children, and adolescents admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU).

  • Continuously assess, monitor, and document patients' vital signs, clinical conditions, and responses to treatment.

  • Administer medications, intravenous fluids, blood products, and specialized therapies accurately and safely according to physician orders and hospital policies.

  • Operate and monitor advanced life-support equipment, including ventilators, infusion pumps, cardiac monitors, and oxygen delivery systems.

  • Assist physicians during emergency procedures, resuscitations, intubations, central line insertions, and other critical care interventions.

  • Maintain accurate and timely nursing documentation, patient records, and care plans.

  • Recognize and promptly respond to changes in patient condition, initiating appropriate interventions and escalating concerns as required.

  • Implement infection prevention and control measures to ensure a safe and sterile environment for patients and staff.

  • Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to develop and execute individualized patient care plans.

  • Provide emotional support, education, and counseling to parents and family members regarding patient conditions, treatments, and discharge planning.

  • Ensure proper nutrition management, including enteral and parenteral feeding, according to established protocols.

  • Participate in patient handovers and multidisciplinary rounds to ensure continuity of care.

  • Maintain patient safety by adhering to medication safety standards, quality improvement initiatives, and clinical guidelines.

  • Assist in the admission, transfer, and discharge processes of NICU and PICU patients.

  • Participate in continuing education, clinical training, and competency development programs to maintain critical care nursing standards.

  • Support hospital accreditation, quality assurance, and patient safety programs through compliance with policies and procedures.
