Experience:
Assist in CABG Procedures
Assist the Chief Cardiac Surgeon during CABG and other open-heart/cardiac surgical procedures.
Participate in surgical preparation, exposure, graft harvesting, anastomosis assistance, hemostasis, closure, and other operative activities as directed.
Maintain strict adherence to sterile techniques and operating-room protocols.
Pre-operative Patient Management
Assess and clinically evaluate patients scheduled for CABG under the supervision of the Chief Cardiac Surgeon.
Review relevant investigations, including CBC, renal function, coagulation profile, ECG, echocardiography, coronary angiography, and other required investigations.
Assist in pre-operative optimization and identification of potential surgical risks.
Ensure the patient's medical records, investigations, consent forms, and surgical checklist are complete before surgery.
Intra-operative Responsibilities
Provide direct assistance to the Chief Cardiac Surgeon throughout the surgical procedure.
Assist with surgical instruments, graft preparation, tissue handling, suturing, hemostasis, and wound closure as assigned.
Coordinate effectively with the anesthesiology, perfusion, nursing, and OT teams.
Monitor the patient's clinical status and immediately communicate any significant changes to the surgical team.
Post-operative Care
Assist in immediate post-operative management and transfer of patients to the Cardiac ICU.
Monitor vital signs, drains, wound condition, bleeding, urine output, and other relevant clinical parameters.
Assist in identifying and managing post-operative complications under the supervision of the cardiac surgeon and intensivist.
Participate in daily post-operative rounds and communicate patient progress to the Chief Cardiac Surgeon.
Patient Follow-up
Conduct post-operative patient assessments and follow-up as directed by the Chief Cardiac Surgeon.
Monitor recovery, wound healing, mobility, and other relevant clinical parameters.
Assist in discharge planning and provide patients/families with appropriate post-operative instructions under supervision.
Participate in outpatient follow-up of post-CABG patients when required.
Clinical Documentation
Maintain accurate and timely documentation of pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative patient care.
Prepare and update patient progress notes, operative records, post-operative orders, discharge summaries, and follow-up documentation as required.
Ensure all clinical documentation complies with hospital policies and applicable professional standards.
Emergency & On-call Support
Remain available for emergency cardiac surgical cases and urgent clinical situations as assigned.
Provide on-call support for cardiac surgery patients and promptly escalate critical findings to the Chief Cardiac Surgeon.
Assist in emergency interventions within the scope of competence and institutional protocols.
Multidisciplinary Coordination
Coordinate with Cardiac ICU, Anesthesia, Perfusion, Nursing, Cath Lab, Cardiology, Blood Bank, Radiology, Laboratory, and other relevant departments.
Ensure timely communication of patient-related information among members of the cardiac surgical team.
Clinical Quality & Patient Safety
Follow hospital policies, surgical safety checklists, infection prevention protocols, and patient safety standards.
Participate in morbidity and mortality reviews, clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, and incident reporting when required.
Maintain confidentiality of all patient information.
Training & Professional Development
Participate in departmental clinical meetings, case discussions, CME programs, and surgical training activities.
Keep updated with current evidence-based practices and guidelines in cardiac surgery and CABG.
Assist in teaching and supervising junior doctors, interns, and other clinical trainees when assigned.
