Education:
MBBS degree, recognized by Bangladesh Medical & Dental Council (BMDC).
Postgraduate qualification in neurology / neuro medicine (e.g. MD Neurology, FCPS/MD/MRCP in relevant area) or significant relevant experience after postgraduation will get preference.
Additional training (Fellowship, certifications) in neuro diagnostics or sub‐specialty desirable.
Strong clinical judgment and decision‐making ability.
Proficiency in conducting neurological examinations and interpreting neuro diagnostic tests.
Competency in performing key neurological procedures (e.g., lumbar puncture).
Excellent communication skills in Bengali and English: with patients, families, colleagues.

The Specialist in the Neuro Medicine Department at Bangladesh Specialized Hospital is responsible for delivering expert care in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of a wide range of neurological disorders. This role involves evaluating both inpatients and outpatients, formulating evidence-based treatment plans, performing or supervising neurological procedures, and responding to neurological emergencies. The Specialist works closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive and patient-centered care, contributes to clinical governance, participates in teaching and mentoring junior staff, and supports the development of clinical protocols. A high level of clinical competence, communication skills, and dedication to patient welfare are essential for this role.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Duties
Evaluate patients presenting with neurological complaints: history taking, neurological physical examination, formulating differential diagnoses.
Order, interpret, and correlate diagnostic tests (e.g. MRI, CT, EEG, nerve conduction studies, lumbar puncture, lab work) to guide diagnosis and management.
Develop and initiate treatment plans (medical, pharmacological) for neurological conditions (e.g. stroke, epilepsy, migraines, neuro‐infections, neuromuscular disorders, neurodegenerative diseases).
Manage inpatients: daily ward rounds, monitoring progress, adjusting treatment; manage acute neurological emergencies.
Procedure & Emergency Responsibilities
Perform or supervise relevant neurological procedures (such as lumbar puncture, nerve conduction tests, etc.).
Be on call for neurological emergencies; respond to urgent consultations for stroke, seizures, altered mental status, etc.
Coordinate with ICU, CCU, or emergency units when neurological support is needed.
Administrative and Departmental Coordination
Assist in admission and discharge planning; prepare discharge summaries and ensure continuity of care.
Maintain accurate and timely medical records, case notes, test reports.
Coordinate with nursing, allied health, diagnostic and administrative teams.
Uphold hospital policies: infection control, patient safety, ethical practice, confidentiality.
Quality Improvement, Training & Professional Development
Participate in departmental meetings, case reviews (including morbidity & mortality), clinical audits.
Mentor or supervise junior doctors (Sr. Medical Officer, medical officers).
Stay current with advances in neuro medicine: attend CME, workshops, journal clubs, etc.
Contribute to development of clinical protocols, guidelines, and standard operating procedures.
