Education:
MBBS from a recognized medical college And
FCPS-Part 1 / MS -Phase A in relevant field with Minimum 7 years' experience/training in Surgery Department/related Specialty (for Registrar) and Minimum 3 years' experience/training in Surgery Department/related Specialty (for SMO)
Prior experience in ICU or Cardiac ICU is highly preferred
Certification in ACLS and BLS is an advantage
Job Summary
The Registrar / Sr. Medical Officer in the Cardiac ICU is responsible for the comprehensive management of critically ill cardiac patients, including post-operative cardiac surgery cases and medical cardiac emergencies. The role requires continuous patient monitoring, timely clinical decision-making, and coordination with consultants and multidisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities
1. Clinical Management
Evaluate, diagnose, and manage critically ill cardiac patients
Provide care for conditions such as:
Acute coronary syndrome (ACS)
Heart failure and cardiogenic shock
Cardiac arrhythmias
Post-cardiac surgery patients
Conduct daily ICU rounds and implement treatment plans under consultant supervision
2. ICU Procedures & Interventions
Perform or assist in ICU procedures, including:
Central venous catheter insertion
Arterial line placement
Endotracheal intubation
Manage ventilator support, inotropes, and vasopressors
Interpret ECG, ABG, cardiac enzymes, and basic echocardiography
3. Monitoring & Emergency Care
Continuously monitor patient vital parameters and clinical status
Identify early signs of deterioration and take immediate action
Participate in resuscitation and manage cardiac arrest cases (CPR/ACLS protocols)
4. Coordination & Communication
Work closely with cardiology consultants, cardiac surgeons, and ICU team
Communicate patient condition and progress to senior doctors
Counsel patients’ attendants regarding clinical updates (as per hospital policy)
5. Documentation & Compliance
Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records
Ensure adherence to ICU protocols, infection control guidelines, and hospital policies
Participate in clinical audits and quality improvement programs
6. Academic & Training Activities
Supervise junior doctors and nursing staff
Participate in case presentations, academic discussions, and CME programs
