Job Summary

The Specialist in Gynaecology & Obstetrics is responsible for providing comprehensive, evidence-based care to women with gynecological conditions and obstetric patients. The role includes evaluating and managing patients inpatient department (IPD), labor ward, emergency unit, and operating theatre (OT). The Specialist works closely with Consultants and the multidisciplinary healthcare team to ensure safe, high-quality patient care, accurate documentation, timely interventions, and adherence to hospital policies and clinical protocols.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, diagnose, and manage obstetric and gynecological patients in IPD and emergency settings.

  • Conduct daily ward rounds and monitor patients' clinical progress.

  • Manage antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care, including high-risk pregnancies.

  • Diagnose and treat common and complex gynecological disorders.

  • Perform or assist in obstetric and gynecological procedures and surgeries according to competency and hospital protocols.

  • Respond promptly to obstetric and gynecological emergencies.

  • Order, interpret, and utilize laboratory and diagnostic investigations for patient management.

  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans in consultation with the Consultant.

  • Maintain complete, accurate, and timely medical records and clinical documentation.

  • Counsel patients and their families regarding diagnosis, treatment options, procedures, and preventive care.

  • Supervise and guide Medical Officers, interns, and nursing staff as appropriate.

  • Ensure compliance with infection prevention, patient safety, quality assurance, and hospital policies.

  • Participate in departmental meetings, clinical audits, continuing medical education (CME), and quality improvement initiatives.

  • Collaborate effectively with other specialties and healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated patient care.
