  • Strong communication and coordination skills for working with communities, NGOs, and other stakeholders.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ability to design and maintain tracking tools.

  • Knowledge of inventory management and logistics procedures.

  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including Fridays and holidays, if required.

Responsibilities & Context:

The Danish Refugee Council (DRC), one of the world’s leading NGOs, with a focus on responding to displacement, have been registered in Bangladesh since 2013. In 2017, in response to the Rohingya influx, DRC launched an integrated program of support to the government in site management, shelter/NFI and protection. In 2018, DRC started implementing aid projects in support of the host communities most affected by the influx of refugees. As a key part of this, DRC opened an area office in Cox’s Bazar, and a country office in Dhaka.

POSITION PROFILE

The CCCM Assistant (SMS Technical Assistant) will support the implementation, monitoring, and quality assurance of shelter, Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), landslide risk mitigation, and Nature-based Solutions (NbS) schemes in the Rohingya camps. working in tandem with the Shelter and Settlement Specialist and the Camp Manager with technical guidance from them, and the Technical Assistant will report to the CCCM Manager. The role will support CCCM programming by providing day-to-day technical guidance in the camps, supervising skilled and unskilled Cash-for-Work (CFW) workers, engaging the Rohingya community in discussions related to implementation, and ensuring CFWs attendance.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide technical support to Technical Officer, Team leader and Shelter, and Settlement Specialist in the layout, design, and preparation of Bills of Quantities (BoQs) for shelter, DRR, landslide mitigation, and NbS schemes in line with relevant standards.

  • Conduct daily field implementation of ongoing activities to ensure adherence to quality, safety, and relevant standards, addressing technical issues promptly.

  • Supervise skilled and unskilled CFW workers during implementation, ensuring productivity, safety compliance, and effective use of materials.

  • Engage Rohingya communities in discussions to raise awareness, gather feedback, and integrate community perspectives into scheme/activity implementation.

  • Support the technical officer and team leaders in preparing weekly activity updates and progress reports for submission to the CCCM Manager.

  • Track and report material usage, forecast consumable needs, and ensure timely requests are raised for procurement and logistics continuity.

  • Maintain proper records of materials, tools, and equipment used in activities, ensuring compliance with DRC inventory and documentation procedures.

  • Facilitate basic technical orientations and on-the-job coaching for CFW workers and community members to build capacity in shelter, DRR, and NbS techniques.

  • Ensure all CFW adhere to safety standards and use personal protective equipment (PPE) during implementation.

  • Fill out scheme monitoring checklists and submit updates to supervisors and work with communities on the implementation of Community-Led Projects (CLPs)

  • Promote adherence to DRC’s Code of Conduct, safeguarding, and PSEA principles among all workers and community members engaged in activities.

  • Carry out any other relevant tasks assigned by the Team leader or Camp Managers.

Safety

  • Comply with all global and location-specific safety rules, policies, and procedures. Report safety incidents, near-misses and other relevant information to the safety team as shall be briefed during onboarding. Failure to adhere to these is a disciplinary offence while it may also leave the position holder, their colleagues and DRC Bangladesh, at risk.
