Job Context:
∎ Strategic holdings, one of the leading conglomerates of the country is eyeing to venture into the media business. We are planning to build a state of the art media joint, starting with the launch of a web portal. The web portal will be a one-stop destination for news and currents affairs. From politics to entertainment and from international affairs to sports, it will contain all. Also, there will be various digital online contents, and shows which will cater to a wider audience. The company believes that this effort will be the first of a kind in the country.
∎ To achieve our goal, we are looking for young, talented, multi-tasking and hardworking team members.
∎ Dhaka at group corporate office but if needed must willing to go outside of Dhaka.
Job Responsibilities:
∎ Editing copies, written by reporters or features writers, to make it smart and appealing to the readers
∎ Rewriting material so that it flows or reads better and adheres to the house style of a particular publication
∎ Writing headlines that capture the essence of the story or are clever or amusing
∎ Writing stand firsts or 'sells' (brief introductions, which sum up the story underneath the headline)
∎ Liaising with reporters, journalists and editors
∎ Remove spelling mistakes and grammatical errors
∎ Ensuring that a story fits a particular word count by cutting or expanding material as necessary
∎ Cropping photos and deciding where to use them for best effect and writing picture captions
∎ Proofreading complete pages produced by other sub-editors using the main basic proofing symbols
∎ Working to a page plan to ensure that the right stories appear in the correct place on each page
∎ Laying out pages and, depending on the nature of the role, playing a part in page design
∎ Manipulating on-screen copy using appropriate desktop publishing software, such as Quark Express, InDesign and Photoshop
∎ Keeping up to date with current issues of the sector, e.g. by reading related publications
∎ Adapting all these skills for a publication website.
