Additional Requirements:
  • Comprehensive academic and practical knowledge in agriculture, including crop production, horticulture, and sustainable farming practices.

  • Strong technical expertise in diverse livelihood interventions such as poultry/livestock rearing, hydroponic/aquaponic systems, and mushroom production.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective stakeholder coordination, donor liaison, and team guidance.

  • Proficient computer skills for data analysis, report preparation, and project documentation using standard office software.

  • Demonstrated ability in professional report writing, including progress reports, expenditure summaries, and technical documentation.

  • Deep understanding of organizational culture, values, and safeguarding policies to promote a safe, ethical, and compliant work environment.

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills for staff supervision, beneficiary training, and building productive relationships with community and government stakeholders.

  • Analytical and problem-solving competency to assess field challenges, adapt project plans, and improve programme outcomes based on monitoring and feedback.



Responsibilities & Context:

BRAC is an international development organisation founded in Bangladesh in 1972 that partners globally with over 100 million people living with inequality and poverty to create opportunities to realise their potential.

The Sector Specialist, Agriculture will be responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing agriculture and livelihood interventions under the Resilience and HCMP programme. The role aims to improve to improve farming practices, productivity, food security, and income opportunities of camp-based beneficiaries by providing technical guidance, staff capacity building, data analysis, and strong coordination with government and humanitarian stakeholders. The position focuses on crop production, livestock and poultry rearing, climate-adaptive agriculture, mushroom production, aquaponic and hydroponic farming, and market linkages at camp level.

Technical Leadership and Field Supervision

• Supervise and provide regular technical advice and support to Project Officers through routine field visits and follow-up to ensure effective implementation of project activities.

• Guide Project Officers and beneficiaries in establishing and managing homestead gardens, mushroom production units, poultry and pigeon rearing, hydroponic systems, and pond-dyke vegetable cultivation.

• Support variety selection, area selection, and beneficiary selection based on technical feasibility and project criteria.

• Track household-level vegetable production and consumption data to assess food security outcomes.

Planning, Budgeting, and Resource Management

• Prepare and update training plans, cash distribution plans, and procurement plans to ensure smooth project implementation.

• Monitor budget utilization and ensure timely distribution of agro-inputs to beneficiaries for quality programme delivery.

Coordination and Stakeholder Engagement

• Coordinate closely with CiC, CMA, and relevant government stakeholders to ensure timely monthly camp-based reporting and operational approvals.

• Maintain intensive coordination with other HCMP sectors to promote programme synergy and improved project results.

• Facilitate donor visits, liaise with stakeholders, and represent the project in coordination and review meetings.

Monitoring, Reporting, and Documentation

• Prepare and submit weekly, monthly, and quarterly progress reports, observation reports, and expenditure summaries in a timely manner.

• Support data analysis, documentation, and learning for programme improvement and donor reporting.

• Perform any other responsibilities assigned by the Project Manager in line with project needs.

Safeguarding

• Ensure the safety of Programme Participants, people who come into contact with the organisation and team members from any harm, abuse, neglect, harassment and exploitation including sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) to achieve the programme's goals of safeguarding implementation. Act as a key source of support, guidance and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment.

• Practice, promote and endorse the issues of safeguarding policy among team members and ensure the implementation of safeguarding standards in every course of action.

• Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place and encourage others to do so.
