Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).

Responsibilities & Context:
  • The Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining all aspects of the company's occupational health and safety programs, ensuring compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA, etc.). This role involves promoting a strong safety culture, investigating incidents, conducting training, and managing risk to provide a safe and healthy work environment for all employees.
  • 1) Program Development & Management:
  • Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) policies and procedures tailored to the company's operations.
  • Conduct regular workplace safety inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Develop and manage the annual safety budget, purchasing necessary safety equipment and supplies.
  • Maintain and update all required safety documentation, records, and compliance logs.
  • 2) Compliance & Risk Management:
  • Ensure the company is in full compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal safety and environmental regulations (e.g., OSHA standards, EPA requirements).
  • Manage the company's risk exposure related to safety and health issues, including developing and implementing corrective action plans.
  • Serve as the primary contact for regulatory agency inspections and inquiries.
  • 3) Incident Investigation & Reporting:
  • Lead and document thorough investigations of all workplace incidents, accidents, and near-misses to determine root causes.
  • Develop and implement preventative measures and corrective actions based on investigation findings.
  • Manage the company’s Workers' Compensation program in conjunction with HR and insurance providers.
  • 5) Training & Culture:
  • Develop and deliver engaging and effective safety training programs for new hires and current employees on various topics (e.g., LOTO, confined space, hazard communication, fire prevention, emergency response).
  • Lead and actively participate in the Safety Committee, driving employee involvement in safety initiatives.
  • Champion a proactive safety culture where safety is a core value, not just a priority.
  • 6. Health and Safety Management
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards on-site.
  • Conduct safety briefings and ensure the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Identify potential hazards and implement measures to prevent accidents.
  • 7. Resource Management
  • Manage the allocation of materials, equipment, and labor on-site.
  • Ensure timely delivery of materials and equipment to avoid project delays.
  • 8. Progress Monitoring
  • Track project progress and ensure that milestones are met according to the project schedule.
  • Report any delays, issues, or risks that could affect project completion to the Project Manager.
  • 9. Problem-Solving
  • Address technical or logistical issues that arise during construction.
  • Collaborate with engineers, architects, and contractors to resolve design or execution challenges.
  • 10. Documentation and Reporting
  • Maintain accurate records of daily activities, including work progress, resource usage, and any issues encountered.
  • Prepare and submit progress reports and inspection reports to the project manager or senior engineers.
  • 11. Compliance with Regulations
  • Ensure that all construction work complies with local building codes, regulations, and environmental laws.
  • Manage site permits and ensure that all legal requirements are met.
