Job Context:
∎ BRAC Institute for Governance and Development (BIGD) has initiated multiple projects that aim to address challenges and vulnerabilities of people with disabilities in the time of COVID-19 and the barriers faced by people with disabilities and available opportunities for employment of people with disabilities. The research will be conducted using a qualitative approach. It will involve in-depth interviews with people of both sexes and various ages with different types of disabilities. It will also involve interviewing and conducting focus group discussions with key informants (people who work in DPOs, private sector people employing people with disabilities and relevant government officials).
∎ To work in these areas, we are looking for one Research Associate for a minimum commitment of three months. The candidate will be primarily based in Dhaka, with travel outside Dhaka as needed. The successful candidate will work with leading academics and researchers, thus paving the way for a future career in academia, the private sector, or the public sector. Candidates with previous experience in doing research on issues related to disabilities will be be given high priority. Candidates with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply.
Job Responsibilities:
∎ Scope of work:
∎ Liaising and conducting in-depth interviews with people with disabilities of both sexes, wide age range and types of disability.
∎ Liaising and conducting key informant interviews with programme implementers, trainers and other staff of Disabled People's Organizations (DPOs) and relevant staff in private sector as well as relevant government officials.
∎ Conducting focus group discussions with different study groups.
∎ Writing case studies and case summaries
∎ Contributing to the analysis
∎ Support writing research proposals; and
∎ Additional tasks related to qualitative exploration as and when they are assigned;
∎ Undertaking research related administrative work
Additional Requirements:
∎ Excellent verbal and written Bengali-language skills;
∎ Well versed in behavioral communication, migration, and history searching literature
∎ A strong ability to work on a team and under pressure with strict deadlines to manage relationships and multiple projects;
∎ Strong analytical and interpretation skills;
∎ Multicultural and gender sensitivity;
∎ Professionalism in communications and delivery;
∎ Proficiency in English is a plus but not required; and
∎ Proficiency in Bangla sign language is a plus but not required.
∎ Reporting and base:
∎ The position will report to the Research Coordinator of the relevant project.
