Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in social work, Social Science, Development Studies, or a related discipline from a reputed university (master’s degree preferred).
• Minimum 2-3 years of professional experience in humanitarian or development programs, preferably in Cox’s Bazar or similar emergency response contexts.
• Prior experience in protection, DRR, gender-based programming, or community engagement will be a strong advantage.
• Familiarity with the Chittagonian language and local socio-cultural dynamics is highly desirable.
Technical Expertise, Skills, and Knowledge (Essential):
• Strong understanding of protection principles, gender-based approaches, and community participation frameworks.
• Proven ability to conduct participatory assessments, identify protection risks, and design context-specific awareness interventions.
• Experience in case management, referral pathways, and inter-agency coordination within humanitarian settings.
• Strong report writing, documentation, and analytical abilities, with attention to detail.
• Ability to work collaboratively with community volunteers, partners, and government stakeholders.
• Willingness to travel frequently to field locations, including Rohingya camps and host communities, under challenging conditions.
Desirable:
• Capacity to work both independently and within a team, demonstrating initiative and sound judgment.
• Familiarity with protection sector coordination mechanisms in Cox’s Bazar.
• Experience with peacebuilding, psychosocial support, or gender-responsive protection interventions.

Project Context:
Friends in Village Development Bangladesh (FIVDB) is going to implement the Strengthening Inclusive Governance and Adaptive Social Cohesion (SI GA) Project in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar, supported by Welthungerhilfe (WHH) and BMZ (Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development). The project period is from 01 November 2025 to 31 October 2030, and it deliberately follows the HDP (Humanitarian, Development, Peace) Nexus approach to address the complex needs of both Rohingya and host communities. The project is centred on civil society organisation (CSO) strengthening, social cohesion, resilience, gender-responsive development, and the promotion of human rights. By empowering CSOs, the project aims to improve peaceful coexistence, enhance cooperation with government institutions, resolve conflicts, and build resilience to climate, security, and protection risks.
Protection Officer will be responsible for the effective implementation of the protection component of the SI GA project. This includes planning, supervision, monitoring, evaluation, and support of protection and community awareness activities, as well as facilitating training and strategic discussions on protection. S/he will assess the protection needs of beneficiaries, design and deliver tailored awareness sessions through community engagement, and support coordination with the Cox’s Bazar Protection Sector, health, nutrition, and other relevant actors. The position requires regular field visits and close interaction with beneficiaries and community structures to promote safety, dignity, and resilience.
Key Responsibilities-
1. Protection Programming and Leadership
• Act as the focal person for all protection-related activities under the project.
• Lead the planning, implementation, and monitoring of community-based protection interventions.
• Assess protection risks and gaps among project participants and design appropriate interventions in coordination with project teams and partners.
• Support to Capacity Development of CSOs and CBOs for ensuring a protective and peaceful environment for the host and Rohingya Communities.
2. Awareness and Training Facilitation
• Support in designing and delivering protection and DRR awareness sessions, including group meetings, forum meetings, Dialogue sessions, and interactive discussions engaging potential CBOs and CSOs.
• Support in conducting needs assessments to identify protection priorities and capacity gaps among staff, CBOs, and CSOs.
• Support to facilitate training programs for project staff, volunteers, CBOs, and CSOs to strengthen protection knowledge and practices.
3. Coordination and Referral Mechanism
• Establish and maintain an effective referral pathway for protection-related services.
• Maintain active coordination with Protection Sector actors, CiCs, local administration, and other humanitarian partners to ensure integrated service delivery.
• Participate in sector and inter-agency coordination meetings at the camp and Upazila levels.
4. Monitoring, Reporting, and Accountability
• Conduct regular field visits to monitor activity implementation and ensure quality and timeliness.
• Develop and maintain a positive team environment by supporting community volunteers and ensuring inclusive participation.
• Prepare and submit monthly progress reports to the Project Coordinator, including activity summaries, achievements, challenges, and impact stories.
• Ensure project implementation aligns with FIVDB and donor guidelines, safeguarding principles, and accountability standards.
