Responsibilities & Context: The Project Officer (Fisheries) will enhance the livelihoods of the Rohingya community in Bhasan Char by implementing sustainable fisheries and aquaculture initiatives. This role focuses on building community capacity, ensuring resource sustainability, and promoting inclusive participation in fisheries-related income-generating activities. The position aims to improve food security and self-reliance while fostering environmental conservation.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the Assistant Technical specialist (ATS)- Fisheries in executing fisheries-related livelihood activities, focusing on the needs of the Rohingya community.
- Implement the development and support of aquaculture and capture fisheries initiatives.
- Engage and organize the community, encouraging participation in fisheries and aquaculture programs
- Facilitate the formation of community groups or cooperatives to support collective decision-making and shared resource management.
- Conduct training sessions on fish farming techniques, fishing regulations, and sustainable fisheries practices.
- Assist the ATS to provide ongoing technical support and mentorship to community members in aquaculture (Pond preparation, stocking, feeding, water quality management, and disease control) and fisheries operations.
- Play role at field level in the distribution of fishing and aquaculture inputs (nets, feed, fingerlings, etc.) to beneficiaries in an equitable and transparent manner.
- Build the capacity of community groups to manage aquaculture activities independently, including financial literacy and record-keeping.
- Conduct regular field visits to monitor fisheries activities, assess progress, and ensure adherence to project goals.
- Collect data from field on fish production, community participation, and environmental impact as per guidance of the ATS.
- Liaise with community leaders to secure support for project activities.
- Advocate for the inclusion of the Rohingya community in broader fisheries-related initiatives.
- Prepare activity reports, highlighting achievements, challenges, and lessons learned as guided by the ATS.
- Ensure fisheries activities align with local fishing laws and regulations, promoting conservation and sustainable use of resources.
- Promote awareness of and compliance with environmental guidelines, ensuring minimal ecological disruption.
- Provide support to the community during crises, ensuring the continuity of essential activities.
- Ensure the safety of Programme Participants, people who come into contact with the organisation and team members from any harm, abuse, neglect, harassment and exploitation including sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) to achieve the programme's goals of safeguarding implementation. Act as a key source of support, guidance and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment.
- Practice, promote and endorse the issues of safeguarding policy among team members and ensure the implementation of safeguarding standards in every course of action.
- Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place and encourage others to do so.
