Job Context:
∎ ACLAB is implementing an ecological restoration project to reduce threats of climate crisis-induced sea level rise and coastal erosion in Cox’s Bazar and reduce greenhouse gas emissions through the ecological restoration of the dunes. The ecological restoration project, "Living Shoreline: Sustainable Restoration of the Bay of Bengal Coastal Forest and Wetlands in Bangladesh," will pilot multi-stakeholder collaborations among communities, businesses, and local governments for locally-led ecological restoration efforts.
∎ The Role:
∎ The Knowledge Management and Communications Officer is responsible to ensure knowledge management, internal and external communication, and visibility of the project.
∎ Period: From October 2022 to September 2023
∎ Type of employment: Full time
∎ Location: Cox’s Bazar district, Bangladesh
Job Responsibilities:
∎ Writing and editing advocacy and communication materials for the project.
∎ Working with the project manager, other staff, and volunteers to produce the publications for advocacy and communication to achieve the project objectives.
∎ Working with local right-holder communities and ‘dune restoration communities’ in the pilot sites to Draft and publish a community-supported publication for policy advocacy toward the restoration and sustainability of these landscapes.
∎ Helping the project manager with media engagement for the visibility of the project and underlying issues related to the project goal and objectives.
∎ Helping the project manager with documentation of activities and preparing reports for the purpose of monitoring, evaluation, and learning.
∎ Ensuring good communication with the project manager and other staff and volunteers is essential for this role.
∎ Check-in daily with the project manager is essential.
Additional Requirements:
∎ Skills, experience, and knowledge
∎ Essential:
∎ At least two (3) years of experience in knowledge management and communication.
∎ Working experience as a professional in mass communication and journalism.
∎ Masters or Bachelor’s degree in mass communication or journalism or language or literature.
∎ Professional efficiency in Bangla (listening, speaking, writing, reading) language.
∎ Ability to produce engaging written content in Bangla (based on local traditional knowledge, and scientific evidence) with excellent readability, clarity, and grammatical correctness.
∎ Skilled in the story and feature writing, English to Bangla translation, Bangla editing, and Bangla proofreading.
∎ Excellent computer skills for digital writing, collaborative editing, and communications. Skilled in using MS Word, high-speed typing in Bangla Unicode fonts, and online workspace (such as Google Workspace).
∎ Must have a comprehensive understanding of local conservation issues.
∎ Desirable:
∎ Experience working in conservation communication is highly desirable.
∎ Comprehensive understanding of Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC) in conservation and development projects.
∎ Basic swimming and watermanship skills.
∎ Other Requirements:
∎ Required to adhere to values of the Land Rights Standards and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Also, required to adhere to values of non-discrimination, gender justice, women's rights, and child safety.
Salary:
∎ Monthly salary BDT 48,000.00 consolidated including AIT. Others benefits will be applicable as per project documents.
