Job Context:
∎ ACLAB is implementing an ecological restoration project to reduce threats of climate crisis-induced sea level rise and coastal erosion in Cox’s Bazar and reduce greenhouse gas emissions through the ecological restoration of the dunes. The ecological restoration project, "Living Shoreline: Sustainable Restoration of the Bay of Bengal Coastal Forest and Wetlands in Bangladesh," will pilot multi-stakeholder collaborations among communities, businesses, and local governments for locally-led ecological restoration efforts.
∎ The Role:
∎ The Project Manager is responsible for managing all activities of the project and directing other staff and helping volunteers to achieve the objectives of the project.
∎ Period: From October 2022 to September 2023
∎ Type of employment: Full time
∎ Location: Cox’s Bazar district, Bangladesh
Job Responsibilities:
∎ Planning the implementation of the project in collaboration with the team leader, project staff, other departments of the organization, and volunteers.
∎ Directing and supervising the project staff and volunteers to ensure timely implementation of activities.
∎ Coordinating the activities to ensure participation of local right-holder communities and main stakeholders to implement all activities in the pilot sites for ecological restoration.
∎ Coordinating outreach and engagement with government agencies responsible for managing public lands and natural resources and the environment; tourism and hospitality businesses; trade bodies and associations; and civil society organizations.
∎ Taking the lead in the development of a scheme for public-private partnerships for ecological restoration.
∎ Helping the Communication and Knowledge Management Officer to ensure visibility of the project and underlying issues related to the project goal and objectives.
∎ Helping the Project Associates to ensure the engagement of right-holder communities and main stakeholders; to ensure participatory documentation of local ecological knowledge in the areas adjacent to pilot restoration sites; and to ensure the quality of knowledge co-creation.
∎ Ensuring good communication with the project staff, other departments of the organization, and volunteers is essential for this role.
∎ Check-in on regular basis with the team leader is essential.
∎ Maintaining regular progress reports and sharing them with the project team.
Additional Requirements:
∎ Skills, experience, and knowledge
∎ Essential:
∎ At least eight (5) years of professional experience as a conservation and natural resources management practitioner.
∎ Masters degree in Botany or Zoology with major courses in ecology, conservation management, climate change adaptation, and mitigation
∎ Having a comprehensive understanding of coastal and marine social-ecological processes and issues of Cox’s Bazar - Teknaf region.
∎ At least four (3) years of experience in coastal conservation work in Cox’s Bazar - Teknaf region.
∎ Skilled in data collection, research, and scholarly writing on ecology and climate issues.
∎ Skilled in the documentation and managerial reporting.
∎ Skilled in community, local government, and private sector stakeholder engagement.
∎ Professional efficiency in Bangla and English (listening, speaking, writing, reading) language.
∎ Ability to understand (listening comprehension) Chittagonian language.
∎ Excellent computer skills for digital writing, collaborative editing, and communications; skilled in using MS Word, MS Excel, power point and Google Workspace.
∎ Desirable:
∎ Experience in working on projects with government agencies responsible for the conservation management of public lands, natural resources, and the environment.
∎ Comprehensive understanding of Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC) in conservation and development projects.
∎ Basic swimming and watermanship skills.
∎ Other requirements:
∎ Required to adhere to values of the Land Rights Standards and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Also, required to adhere to values of non-discrimination, gender justice, women's rights, and child safety.
Salary:
∎ Monthly salary BDT 75,000.00 consolidated including AIT. Others benefits will be applicable as per project documents.
