Additional Requirements:
  • Age At most 45 years
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in the agriculture and livelihood sector.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in managerial positions

  • Proven experience in program planning, implementation, budgeting, financial management, staff management, and report writing.

  • Strong management skills including the ability to provide strategic guidance, technical oversight, mentor staff, build strong teams, develop work plans, and manage budgets and project expenditures

  • Excellent communication and report-writing skills in English

  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other computer skills

  • Experience in working with government departments

  • Experience in delivering training for a variety of state and non-state actor audiences (local NGOs, government authorities, etc.)

  • Employment Status: Contractual- Fixed Term Contract

Job Context

Uttaran is an NGO working in Bangladesh since 1985 to uphold rights and entitlements and to improve the socio-economic condition of the poor and disadvantaged community people. Uttaran is a people-centered organization using a rights-based approach to alleviate poverty, diversify livelihood opportunities and empower poor communities of Bangladesh.

Reports to: Head of Program

Role Purpose:

Uttaran is seeking a dedicated Project Manager - Agriculture and Livelihood to lead the agricultural and livelihood components of the ASIA Livelihood Project. Reporting to the Project Coordinator and working closely with the Head of Program, the position will oversee the implementation of on-farm and off-farm activities. The role is based in Satkhira District and involves technical, managerial, and advocacy responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Agriculture and Livestock Activities:

  • Organize and facilitate agriculture and livestock-related training and workshops for local producer groups.

  • Establish and manage agriculture demonstration farms, community gardens, and vertical gardening initiatives.

  • Set up and support Farmers Field Schools (FFS), seed banks, and resource farmers.

  • Provide technical guidance for climate-resilient agriculture, livestock farming, and nutrition gardens.

  • Identify and analyze appropriate agriculture technologies suitable for local contexts.

  • Training and Capacity Building:

  • Develop issue-based and appropriate training modules related to agriculture, livestock, and marketing.

  • Conduct capacity and skill-building training sessions for Women’s and Farmers’ Associations.

  • Enhance the capacity of youth and women in advocacy and agroecology.

  • Market Linkage and Networking:

  • Establish linkages between local producers and input suppliers (seeds, fertilizers, etc.).

  • Build connections between urban producers and local agricultural offices.

  • Maintain strong communication and networking with government and non-government stakeholders to ensure support for agriculture and livestock initiatives.

  • Facilitate market linkages for producers and ensure sustainable marketing solutions.

  • Advocacy and Collaboration:

  • Engage youth groups in advocacy processes and agroecology initiatives.

  • Work closely with the Paani Committee and other local groups to promote climate-resilient practices.

  • Coordinate with government and non-government organizations to ensure the effective delivery of project services.

  • Monitoring and Reporting:

  • Prepare monthly MIS reports documenting project activities and achievements.

  • Support technical, research, knowledge management, and M&E departments in implementing effective agricultural interventions.

  • Other Duties:

  • Assist the Project Coordinator in overall project implementation.

  • Undertake any additional responsibilities as required by the organization.

  • Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong technical knowledge of agriculture and livestock practices.

  • Proven experience in organizing and facilitating training programs.

  • Expertise in climate-resilient agriculture and nutrition-sensitive farming.

  • Excellent communication and networking skills.

  • Strong documentation and report-writing abilities.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
