Job Purpose

The Officer, Social Empowerment And Legal Protection (SELP) will carry out activities at the Upazila level to prevent child marriage and empowering the girls through awareness, training, and support initiatives. The role will also provide legal and referral support to all especially women and girls.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare Upazila-level Annual Operational Plan and ensure timely execution.

  • Conduct household surveys to identify girls at risk of child marriage.

  • Form and guide Swapnosarothi groups (girl’s brigades) as required.

  • Facilitate life skills sessions, group meetings, dream plan, and awareness activities.

  • Arrange meetings with parents and community watch groups as per plan.

  • Manage conditional education support and livelihood support for eligible girls/parents.

  • Collaborate with local administration at Upazila and union levels on child marriage prevention.

  • Coordinate and oversee Popular Theatre (PT) shows to ensure quality.

  • Provide legal advice, register complaints, and facilitate dispute resolution (ADR).

  • Support survivors with court cases, police assistance, and fact-finding.

  • Ensure access to referral services (OCC, DLAC, shelters, medical, DNA tests).

  • Report Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) cases through MIS/software.

  • Ensure timely reporting and proper documentation of programme activities.

SAFEGUARDING RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure the safety of Programme Participants, people who come into contact with the organisation and team members from any harm, abuse, neglect, harassment and exploitation including sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) to achieve the programme`s goals of safeguarding implementation. Act as a key source of support, guidance and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment.

  • Practice, promote and endorse the issues of safeguarding policy among team members and ensure the implementation of safeguarding standards in every course of action.

  • Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place and encourage others to do so.
