Job Summary

The NICU Consultant is responsible for providing specialized medical care to critically ill newborns, including premature and high-risk infants. The role involves clinical management, supervision of NICU staff, ensuring adherence to protocols, and maintaining high standards of neonatal care.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert clinical care to neonates admitted in the NICU.

  • Diagnose and manage neonatal conditions including prematurity, respiratory distress, infections, and congenital disorders.

  • Perform and supervise neonatal procedures such as resuscitation, intubation, and ventilation management.

  • Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans accordingly.

  • Lead neonatal resuscitation during high-risk deliveries and emergencies.

  • Coordinate with obstetricians, pediatricians, and nursing teams for integrated patient care.

  • Ensure adherence to infection control and NICU safety protocols.

  • Supervise and mentor junior doctors, nurses, and NICU staff.

  • Maintain accurate and timely medical records and documentation.

  • Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding patient condition and treatment plans.

  • Conduct clinical audits, quality improvement, and training programs.

 

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education:

    • MD in Neonatology OR

    • FCPS in Pediatrics

  • Experience:

    • Minimum 1–2 years of experience in NICU

  • Licensure:

    • Valid medical registration (BMDC or equivalent)

 

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong clinical knowledge in neonatal care

  • Expertise in neonatal resuscitation and life support

  • Decision-making under critical situations

  • Excellent communication and counseling skills

  • Leadership and team management ability

  • Attention to detail and patient safety focus

 

Working Conditions

  • Rotational shifts including nights, weekends, and on-call duties
