Experience:
Proven experience in merchandising, preferably in Knit garments with at least 4 years of relevant work experience.
Strong knowledge of garment manufacturing processes, materials, and quality standards.
Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
Leadership and team management experience.
Proficiency in using relevant software tools and applications for merchandise planning, data analysis, and project management.
An understanding of market trends and the ability to adapt strategies accordingly.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Knowledge of compliance and regulatory standards in the apparel industry.
Product Development
Develop new knit garment styles based on buyer briefs, market trends and company capabilities.
Analyze tech packs, sketches, measurement charts and construction details.
Coordinate development of new styles, fabrics, washes, prints, embroidery, trims and accessories.
Work with the Design/Technical team to convert concepts into commercially viable garments.
Prepare and follow up on development samples, including proto, fit, size set and pre-production samples.
Ensure samples are developed within agreed timelines and specifications.
Identify opportunities for product innovation, value addition and cost optimization.
Buyer & Customer Coordination
Communicate with buyers/design teams regarding product development requirements.
Clarify technical, construction, fabric and finishing requirements.
Present new developments and samples to buyers for approval.
Maintain effective communication and follow up on comments, approvals and revisions.
Understand buyer expectations, seasonal direction and product categories.
Fabric & Material Development
Coordinate with fabric development, knitting, dyeing and sourcing teams for required fabrics.
Develop appropriate GSM, composition, construction, color and finishing based on buyer requirements.
Source and develop trims, accessories and special materials.
Follow up on lab dips, strike-offs, print/embroidery developments and fabric submissions.
Costing & Commercial Development
Prepare preliminary product costing in coordination with the Costing/Commercial team.
Analyze fabric consumption, trims, CM, washing, printing, embroidery and other cost components.
Develop products within buyer target prices.
Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or product integrity.
Support price negotiation and order conversion.
Sample Development & Follow-up
Prepare sample development plans and ensure timely execution.
Coordinate with pattern, sample, CAD, cutting, sewing, finishing and quality teams.
Review samples against buyer specifications before submission.
Ensure buyer comments are incorporated accurately into revised samples.
Maintain development status reports and sample trackers.
