Job Responsibilities:
∎ Support and eventually manage a selected number of analytical studies and research initiatives, particularly on issues related to urban/ community development, regional development, land, housing, and/or local government institutions.
∎ Stay current on different planning policy, acts, and regulation, zoning codes, environmental regulations, and other legal issues
∎ Stay abreast of what is currently going on in the field of Urban Development and Management by reading papers, journals, or books
∎ Review and evaluate different reports pertaining to private and public planning projects and programs.
∎ Design feasibility study for any relevant development project and prepare feasibility study reports
∎ Prepare physical layout plan, master plan, strategic plan for clients
∎ Preparing research proposals and searching for opportunities of international research grants
∎ Preparing and submitting grant applications and administering awarded grants
∎ Gather and analyze data from research, censuses, and economic and environmental studies
∎ Create, prepare, or requisition graphic and narrative reports using geodatabase, land area maps overlaid with different geographic variables.
∎ Designing experiments and developing research protocols
∎ Developing indicators and preparing different study tools for collecting primary and secondary data
∎ Using digital platform (e.g., GeoODK, Survey 123, KoboCollect, ODK) for preparing advanced forms for different data collection
∎ Represent DM WATCH in a professional capacity as we collaborate with Government high officials, development partners, city, professionals as well as local government and the general public.
∎ Supervise and coordinate the works of urban development and management cluster and collaborating with colleagues in multidisciplinary research projects
∎ Training and supervising the mobility of enumerators
∎ Transcribing and/or cleaning data for analysis, analyzing data and writing report
∎ Attending and arranging events such as conference and seminar
∎ Publishing review and original papers in scientific peer reviewed journals
Additional Requirements:
∎ The candidate should possess relevant professional experience in urban development and urban environmental improvement, urban sector development issues, or related area and in project administration and relevant experience in the design of multisector projects, practical knowledge and experience in integration of financial, economic, social, institutional, and issues in project design. The candidate should have prior experience of preparing physical layout plans for residential, commercial, institutional, recreational, industrial areas development plans. Further experience in urban policy and strategy, city wide strategic development plans, smart cities and innovative development planning solutions as an advantage. The candidate should also have the experience of conducting activities related to research independently in the field of Urban Development and Management. Activities include, but are not limited to, defining research problem, reviewing of literature, formulating hypotheses, preparing research design, conducting experiments, collecting, wrangling, and analyzing data, interpreting findings and writing report, publishing, and disseminating results.
∎ The candidate, ideally, should-
∎ Have solid understanding of urban policies, strategies, institutions, and regulations.
∎ Have ability to develop, analyze and articulate technical issues in the urban sector
∎ Have experience in connecting analysis to policy advice on urban issues.
∎ Be strong in oral and written skills in English and the demonstrated ability to produce high quality analytical reports.
∎ Experience in the sector highlighting cities, urban planning, urban transport and/or urban infrastructure
∎ Have a firm willingness to continue the career in the field of research and consultancy
∎ Have advanced knowledge of research methodology and statistics
∎ Have to support in effective decision-making process through Geographic Information System (GIS) and Remote sensing (RS) data management and analysis
∎ Analyze, manipulate and generate visual depictions of large data sets
∎ Be making high-quality graphics, diagrams, maps, sketches and/or renderings. Experienced with Adobe Creative Suite programs, such as Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign
∎ Have an understanding of geospatial data and dynamic dashboard application
∎ Interpret and assess remotely sensed imagery, GIS products and understand their metadata
∎ Be strong in geostatistical analysis and has sufficient knowledge and skills to conduct his/her own GIS and remote sensing investigations
∎ High degree of problem sensitivity and the flexibility to respond quickly
∎ Have proven record of science writing (publication in peer reviewed journals are preferable)
∎ Have the willingness to work under academic challenge
∎ Be humble and open to criticism
∎ Be always prepared to step out of the comfort zone by learning about new ideas and exploring novel and difficult topics
∎ Have good communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills
∎ Have excellent written and verbal communication skills in Bangla (if Bangladeshi) and English
∎ Have good organizational and administrative skills
∎ Be a critical thinker, numerate, curious, independent, exited to learn, flexible, creative, and professional, a passionate reader, a dynamic worker, organized and collaborative, and comfortable with new tech.
