Job Context:

∎ Violent events in Rakhine State of Myanmar, starting in August 2017, led to the displacement of 615`000 Rohingya men, women and children towards Cox`s Bazar district in Bangladesh. The mass and speed of the displacement created an acute humanitarian crisis. People arrived with very little belongings and all basic needs are to be met. Beyond water, sanitation, shelter, food and health, protection is an important issue to address notably when it comes to children: they potentially suffered the most from the dramatic events which happened in Myanmar and during the cross border journey to Bangladesh.
∎ Purpose of the Post:
∎ The IYCF Counsellor has the responsibility of providing and strengthening high-quality IYCF activities within the PHC and local community. This includes identification and treatment of MAM and SAM among PHC attendees, supervision of breastfeeding practices, and providing advice and treatment for all forms of nutrition for mother and baby, especially within the first 1000 days of the child`s life. The individual is also responsible for ensuring referrals to stakeholders and nutrition partners in the local area.
Job Responsibilities:
∎ Provide nutritional counselling to mothers of young children, focusing on children in the first 1000 days of life
∎ Provide breastfeeding advice when required, advising lactating mothers on diet and referring them to the PHC breastfeeding area.
∎ Advise on a balanced diet, using flip charts, diagrams and other IEC materials to convey information.
∎ Advice on food hygiene and the importance of preventing diarrhoea and parasites in promoting nutrition.
∎ Liaise with BEmONC staff to ensure correct nutritional advice is being provided for pregnant and lactating women.
∎ Assess all children presenting with low MUAC or other forms of malnutrition symptoms, treating and referring to local agencies as appropriate.
∎ Develop and strengthen links with local organisations such as ACF and refer to them as required.
∎ Ensure that all children under 5 have MUAC measured, weight is taken and height measured at the point of triage.
∎ Provide assistance and capacity building for clinical staff at PHC to assess and treat all forms of malnutrition.
∎ Liaise with medical and nursing teams regarding the treatment of MAM and SAM in PHC IPD, providing capacity building among staff where necessary.
∎ Work closely with the paediatrician to identify SAM children needing inpatient facility and supporting as per protocol.
∎ Work closely with the Community Health Team to ensure that nutrition messages are integrated into all community education activities
∎ Provide capacity building were required for the Community Health Team.
∎ Liaise with Community Health Team Leader to ensure that correct nutritional messages are being delivered in the community.
∎ Refer patients requiring follow-up to Community health Team.

∎ Essential working experience of at least one year in nutrition activities related jobs. Extra courses or training will be an asset.
∎ Previous experience working in the humanitarian sector essential, including managing MAM, SAM and IYCF programs.
∎ Experience of teaching other staff about assessment, monitoring and treatment of MAM and SAM
∎ Experience in breastfeeding counselling is needed.
∎ Willingness and ability to work within the FDMN environment.
∎ Language: English and Bengali essential and Rohingya would be an asset.
