Responsibilities & Context:

Performing tasks related to hygiene and disinfection according to protocols applied in the service, knowing and applying specific hygiene protocols and security rules. This includes but are not limited to the following:

Maintaining clean and disinfected, the infrastructures allocated to his/her position including the furniture, doors, walls and floor and some medical material (rooms of patients, of consultation, laboratory, operating theatre, delivery room, mortuary, waiting room, staff room, storage room, kitchen, bathroom and latrines) applying specific protocols and using the tools and equipment provided. Cleaning floors, equipment, beds, toilets and showers according to protocols and schedule.

Collecting and evacuating waste produced by medical structures to the designated site, previously sorted by medical staff and emptying out dustbins as often as necessary to ensure an efficient quality of care and safe environment.

Raising awareness on hygiene and sanitation measures amongst patients, visitors, staff, mothers to use correctly the water distribution points, latrines, hand washing points and washing areas in collaboration with the nursing and health promotion team.

Filling all water containers every morning (drinking water and hand washing points) and refilling when half full and for hand washing, ensuring soap is available.

Installing mosquito nets as required for in-patient beds and carrying out laundry activities according to protocols.

Ensuring proper use, storage and maintenance of the equipment and tools provided. Ensuring availability of hygiene and sanitation products, and draws up orders for on-going needs

Reporting any repair or maintenance work needed related to hygiene to the supervisor, as well as any relevant information related to his/her responsibilities.

Ensure that all duties on the Hygiene Agent daily and weekly task list are completed during the working shift.

Follow the cleaning tracker/checklist assigned by the supervisor, sign it, and provide a proper handover of any remaining tasks to the next shift.

Ensure proper cleanliness and disinfection of all facilities (wards/tents, ambulances, seating areas, etc.) in high-risk areas, following IPC guidelines

Collect all housekeeping items prior to patient discharge (e.g., bedsheets, mosquito nets, blankets, pillows). After discharge, conduct thorough terminal cleaning of the patient area.

Clean and disinfect bodily fluids in buckets or on floors in the facility, DTC, and isolation wards, according to IPC guidelines

Maintain cleanliness of vomit buckets, bedpans, urinals, etc., in all areas and keep them in their designated storage areas.

Ensure departmental toilets are cleaned and complete/sign the tracking sheets.

Clean water taps and sinks every two hours and as needed. Clean all high-touch surfaces frequently, possibly multiple times per day or between uses/patients

Always clean hands before putting on gloves and after removing them.

\If a patient is under IPC precautions (contact, airborne, droplet), change the water in the cleaning bucket/trolley before and after cleaning the room or patient bed area.

Change the water in the cleaning trolley/bucket between rooms or halfway through the ward floor.

Ensure an adequate supply of filtered water is available, and check the cleanliness of water containers and taps before refilling.

Empty all garbage containers (before they are ¾ full) in the wards and place the waste in the WATSAN waste transit zone. Ensure bins are available and cleaned in both the department and the ambulance, in collaboration with the WATSAN team.

Dispose of liquid waste in the dirty utility area, and clean mops and buckets between cleaning tasks and again before the shift ends

Must follow appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) protocols, including PVC gowns, heavy-duty gloves, and clogs, while cleaning and preparing disinfectants and detergents

Notify the immediate supervisor if additional PPE is required.

Assist inexperienced staff in properly donning PPE and ensure their names and entry times are recorded on the board/register and on their PPE. Disposable gloves must be worn when patients are under IPC precautions, and gloves should be changed between patients.

Prepare disinfectants (e.g., Surfanios, Chlorine) according to the SOP, label them properly, and provide them to patient care areas in the hospital. SOP

Restock supplies, such as soap and toilet paper, in all relevant areas, and ensure proper utilization of MSF resources.

Notify the immediate supervisor when inventory levels are low or when additional materials/supplies are required to complete tasks

Report any breakage, malfunctioning equipment (e.g., liquid soap dispensers, electrical or plumbing issues), or blocked toilets to the designated supervisor for an internal job request.

Report any incidents of missing MSF property within the office or hospital environment to the immediate supervisor.

Deliver messages to patients and caretakers regarding transmission-based precautions (TBP) and encourage adherence during their hospital stay. Disseminate information on urine, vomit, waste management, and other hygiene-related issues.

Attend departmental meetings and training sessions as requested by the line manager.

Reprocess patients' linen, staff uniforms, plastic sheets, clogs, and other reusable items

Perform ironing, folding, delivery, and documentation of all linen

Deliver hygiene items and ensure accurate tracking and documentation

Act proactively during outbreaks or mass-casualty incidents and strictly adhere to all IPC measures as per IPC guidelines.

Maintain visibility and respond promptly to departmental needs related to the responsibilities listed above.

Perform other activities as instructed by the line manager.

    This is a Permanent Contract with Indefinite contract duration.

    • Salary according to Level 02 of the internal MSF salary grid (BDT 35000/-

    gross, before seniority and income tax deduction).

    • Salary is not negotiable.

    • 2 annual leave days per month worked.

    • There is no provision for relocation. 2 Festival Bonuses after completion of one

    year of uninterrupted continuous service.
