Job Context:
∎ JOB STATEMENT/JOB CONTEXT: Friends in Village Development Bangladesh (FIVDB) is going to implement the “Strengthening smallholder farms and rural enterprises to better cope with climate change in the vulnerable Haor region of Bangladesh” project funded by the Welthungerhilfe (WHH).
∎ The project aims to create local ownership and sustainable development through the establishment and strengthening of local community institutions such as Climate Field School, Micro and Small Enterprises (SMEs), Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) and Agri Service Centers. The project also foresees active collaboration with local authorities (Union Parishad, Upazila Parishad, District Parishad, Municipality and City Cooperation, various government departments) thus political, systematic changes can be initiated and an effective scaling of the project approaches can be enabled. The project will intends to establish and strengthen formal partnerships with different public sector, private sector and civil society institutions such as Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), Bangladesh Organic Agriculture Network (BOAN) of BARI, Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC), Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB), Bangladesh Food Safety Authority (BFSA) to (i) deliver coordinated, decentralized, location specific and need-based extension services for smallholders, (ii) promote sustainable, safe and transparent production and processing standards, and (iii) establish PGS certification as a recognized eco-label. In the towns of Sylhet and Dhaka, the project will cooperate with 20 food entrepreneurs for the creation of organic supply and value chains and support the Consumer Association of Bangladesh in raising the awareness of 1 million consumers on climate resilient, ecological foods. The overall objective of this project is to enhance rural community resilience in Bangladesh to the impacts of climate change on agriculture, food security and livelihoods.
∎ With the partnership of FIVDB, the project will focus in the Upazillas of South Sunamganj, Bishomvopur, and Dirai under Sunamganj District. The duration of the project is 3 years, and the job is contractual for the project period. The position will be recruited for implementing the project based at the Project locations at South Sunamganj, Bishomvopur, and Derai with substantial field activities.
Job Responsibilities:
∎ The Field Officers will carry out the regular ongoing field activities in coordination with the farmers' groups, Climate Field Schools, Agri Service Centers, community service providers, organic famers groups, Community Enterprises, FPOs and rural market actors. He/she will be overall responsible for implementation of the project activities in their respective area and effective delivery of the capacity building events. Field officers will closely work with the Technical Specialists to ensure smooth and effective operations of program support activities.
∎ Provide organization development and management support to the FPOs, Community Micro Enterprises (SMEs), community-based institutions, organic famers groups
∎ Conduct regular meetings with community-based institutions, entrepreneurs, local community service providers and Village Climate Risk Management Committees
∎ Carry out different tools for conducting base line survey, organize beneficiaries' selection and group formation (SHGs)
∎ Form Climate Field Schools and Village Climate Risk Management Committees and facilitate development of Climate Resilient Community Action Plans
∎ Organize and facilitate different training at farmers and community service provider's level.
∎ Maintain coordination with Farmers and other service providers for better access to services, inputs and markets.
∎ Organize linkage building meeting with project beneficiary groups and different service provider
∎ Support to establish one-stop "Agri Service Centre" to ensure affordable, accessible, and quality agriculture and agribusiness services by the community service providers.
∎ Establish FPOs and promote and linkage with existing Small and Micro Enterprises (SMEs) for the delivery of quality inputs, aggregation, value addition and marketing of agricultural produce.
∎ Contribute to the design of and support implementation of business plan at the FPO and MSE level.
∎ Form organic famers groups for establishing PGS at field level
∎ Assist to establish demonstration of climate-resilient practices and technologies
∎ Maintain close collaboration with local govt authority like Union parishad and relevant stakeholder.
∎ Organize different campaigns and fairs including day observance at local level.
∎ Prepare field progress report and other reports regularly, document the key learning & findings and submit to project Coordinator
∎ Follow-up different activities undertaken by the beneficiaries with project support.
∎ Participate in the monthly staff coordination meeting. Regular communication with Project Coordinator and Technical Specialists.
∎ Conduct / perform any other responsibility when asked by the supervisor for the interest of the Program and/or the organizations in the partnership (FIVDB and WHH).
Additional Requirements:
∎ Age 22 to 50 years
∎ Both males and females are allowed to apply
∎ Experience in similar position of any agriculture/nutrition/market/livelihood project/programme
∎ Good communication, documentation, facilitation and motivational skill.
∎ Understanding of local culture and languages.
∎ Ability to work in a team and with good networking and interpersonal skills
∎ In depth understanding of rural markets, organic food promotion and rural service provision.
∎ Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Salary: Tk. 30000 - 32000 (Monthly)
