∎ The Fabric Technologist (Knit) will be accountable for ensuring the quality, performance, and compliance of fabrics used in production in close collaboration with suppliers, designers, merchandisers, and quality assurance teams to ensure that the fabrics meet the standards and requirements. The incumbent is responsible for managing all technical issues related to fabrics, utilizing technical knowledge of yarns, fabric manufacturing, dyeing, and finishing to carry out risk assessments along with quality teams, and guiding factories on critical developments and bulk for the business unit.
Job Responsibilities:
∎ Collaborate with the merchandising and design teams to understand fabric requirements and specifications for various collections.
∎ Identify potential fabric suppliers, develop relationships, and assess their capabilities to meet quality and quantity demands.
∎ Evaluate fabric samples based on color consistency, hand feel, composition, shrinkage, durability, and other relevant properties.
∎ Ensure use of chemicals in dyeing fabrics are either buyer nominated sources or within ZXY hazardous chemical internal limit and ISO chemical standards.
∎ Work closely with designers to understand the creative vision and offer insights into fabric choices that align with design concepts.
∎ Collaborate with merchandisers to ensure that fabric selection meets pricing and target market requirements.
∎ Provide technical guidance to design and merchandising teams on fabric selection, performance, and limitations.
∎ Develop and implement fabric testing protocols and standards to ensure compliance with industry regulations and brand requirements.
∎ Conduct thorough testing on fabric samples, including colorfastness, dimensional stability, tear strength, abrasion resistance, and more.
∎ Analyze test results, identify any discrepancies or deviations, and work with suppliers to resolve issues.
∎ Collaborate closely with fabric suppliers to address any technical concerns, ensure timely delivery of high-quality materials, and resolve any production-related challenges.
∎ Follow up Time & Action (TNA) with the factory to ensure timely fabric in-house.
∎ Oversee fabric inspection report and ensure quality fabric/PP match against approved parameters.
∎ Ensure fabric is in-housed on time to ensure cutting starts as per Planned Cut Date (PCD) and update quality and merchant team.
∎ Oversee bulk fabric inspection within tolerance as per 4-points system, evaluate inspection report and advice solution for all fabric issues.
∎ Conduct supplier audits and visits to assess their manufacturing processes and quality control procedures.
∎ Maintain accurate records of fabric testing results, supplier communications, and relevant documentation.
∎ Generate detailed reports and communicate findings to internal teams, highlighting any potential risks or areas for improvement.
∎ Stay up to date with fabric technology advancements, industry trends, and sustainable practices.
Additional Requirements:
∎ At least 7 years' experience in Fabric Technician in a reputed buying office or textile mill
∎ A strong technical knowledge of yarns, fabrics, print processes, knit/woven construction, fabric finishes, washing techniques and an analytical understanding of color is essential.
∎ Having existing contacts and relationships with a wide range of fabric suppliers will be an added advantage.
∎ Should have basic knowledge of sustainable fashion solutions and material innovation.
∎ Passionate about Fabrics and Apparel Fashion with commercial awareness
∎ Must be highly organized and pay great attention to details
∎ Good knowledge in costing and knowing the current yarn/fabric prices in the market
∎ Must be able to travel domestically and internationally as needed
∎ Strong interpersonal skills, ability to interact and build relationships work as a team
∎ Should be well-groomed, smart, and energetic
∎ Strong presentation and delivery skills
∎ Strong attention to detail and accuracy, aiming for perfection
∎ Excellent written and verbal communication both in Bangla and English
∎ IT proficiency - advance level skill is a MUST in MS Office package (Especially PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and Outlook)
∎ Should be proactive and dynamic, ability to work hard efficiently
∎ Ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast paced and creative environment
