Educational Requirements:
∎ The candidate must have a post-graduate degree in forestry or environmental sciences or any related disciplines. Preference will be given to the candidate having Ph.D. degree in the related discipline.

Job Context:
∎ Arannayk Foundation (AF), also known as the Bangladesh Tropical Forest Conservation Foundation, is a not-for-profit organization registered under Section 28 and 29 of the Bangladesh Companies Act 1994. It was established in 2003 through a joint initiative of the Government of Bangladesh and the Government of the USA. It provides grants and technical support to NGOs, universities, research institutes and other eligible entities for forest and biodiversity conservation activities including alternative livelihood development of forest dependent communities. The AF itself also implements projects with funds from other donors. The head office of AF is located in Dhaka. There is also a regional office in Cox`s Bazar Sadar and a project office in Ukhiya.
∎ The AF is governed by a seven-member Board of Directors; one each from the US and Bangladesh Governments, and the remaining five representatives from a broad range of civil society, scientific/research and academic, and community organizations involved in forestry and environmental protection and development.

Job Responsibilities:
∎ The Executive Director is the Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation, appointed by, and reportable to, the Board of Directors. The Executive Director shall be responsible for the daily management of the Foundation under the guidance of the Board.
∎ The basic functions of the position include but not limited to -
∎ Administer the affairs of the Foundation properly;
∎ Coordinate with the Board in management of the funds of the Foundation.
∎ Draw, endorse, sign, accept or negotiate commercial paper and other negotiable instruments with the approval of the Board;
∎ Secure any contract or agreements entered into by the Foundation;
∎ Appoint or terminate employees, determine their powers and duties, fix their salaries and benefits packages in accordance with the service rules as framed by the Board of Directors;
∎ Prescribe the duties of all employees and staff of the Foundation;
∎ Institute, conduct, defend or abandon any legal proceedings by or against the Foundations or its officers and to appoint advocate(s) / legal counsel with the consent of the Board;
∎ Coordinate and exercise general supervision over the activities of the Foundation.
∎ Establish supplementary policies, procedures, guidelines, instructions to strengthen the control mechanism;
∎ Delegate, in writing, specified powers to any officer, employee or agent of the Foundation, with consent of the Board of Directors;
∎ Foster the image of the Foundation and take initiatives for acquiring funds / projects from the donors, private and public agencies and development partners to achieve the objectives of the Foundation;
∎ Perform any other tasks that shall be decided upon by Board of Directors in the best interest of the Foundation;

Additional Requirements:
∎ The candidate must have at least 20 years of experience in forest management related programs through working in any public, private or development organization. It must include at least five years of service in project management positions, either as project director or team leader.
∎ The candidate must have a proven track record of significant contribution in the field.
∎ Knowledge of using social science tools for community need assessment will be considered as added qualifications of the candidate.
∎ The candidate must have knowledge of monitoring and evaluation as well as training module development.
∎ The candidate shall have organizational management skills such as office management, financial management and procurement of goods and services.
∎ The candidate must have excellent communication skill both in Bangla and English.
∎ The candidate must be conversant in the use of common office software, especially Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint along with high level of analytical and presentation skills. Knowledge of GIS/RS will be considered as an added qualification of the candidate.
